Ike Chuks – Igbotic

He’s been hot on the rise over recent months and like a lot of UK acts with their roots in the Afro music world, his success has been ripe across his native continent. Ike Chuks now releases his sophomore project Igbotic The EP and it’s leading to commendations the world over. The selection of 5 tracks sees him perform to the best of his strengths: a very catchy mix of UK Afro Swing, delivered in Afropop blend of English, pidgin and Igbo language, making it a unique and artistic collection.

Releasing on 03rd April, the EP has been quick to hit playlists across Apple, Spotify and Deezer whilst also gaining rave reviews from TooXclusive, Audiomack, Bella Naija and Pulse.ng. Having previously released the stand out single ‘Ego’, featuring Mystro, the varying pace of the previously unleashed 4 records are vibrant, soulful and heartwarming in vibe. ‘What Happened To Kate’ opens the show with a myriad of rap flows, Afroswing and a slice of UK influence that embodies Ike Chuks. Third track on the listing is ‘Never Been’, a laidback, sexy and melodic number that highlights the soft, golden tones of its creator. As the EP progresses, ‘Money’ ups the tempo with a sing-a-long anthem that drops the knock out, shoulder swaying moment alongside Boj (Tiwa Savage, Skepta) . Wrapping things up as the final track, Ike Chuks drops ‘Fire’, a finely produced and written endearing piece that beautifully warms the soul.

Finding a niche in his art by making resonating music in his own unique IGBOTIC style, the make-up of Ike Chuks runs deep throughout all of his output. The symmetry in creativity and artiste branding is evident in the warm green theme colours of the project – synonymous to Nigeria from its official colour to its agricultural exports. The 5-track EP, which features collaborations from contemporary alte acts, has the hallmarks of a modern cultural reset.
