James Quick Battles His Inner Demons w/ “Prozac”

Bay-Area native James Quick dives straight into his feelings with new alternative single “Prozac”. The track comes as the first single off the forthcoming EP.

The mental health conversation recently became an important and personal one to James, and he realized he didn’t want to pretend things were fine when they weren’t:

I couldn’t leave the house, couldn’t focus on anything, and had no idea how to deal with it. I wrote this song in the middle of my battle with anxiety about how I wanted to try and conquer it by talking it through and getting to the core of it. That being said, every person’s battle with mental health is different and personal, so it’s important we all figure out what works for us.” – James Quick

“Prozac” seeks to comfort those in the midst of emotional turmoil and normalize conversations around mental health. His raspy vocals paired with all-too-relatable lyrics paint a scene straight out of any millennial coming-of-age movie, but almost anyone can relate to the frustration and hopelessness anxiety brings. James’s forthcoming EP, which will touch on similar themes, is set to release this summer.

James Quick emerged in 2015 with not much more than a handful of tracks recorded in his dorm room. With a jazz upbringing in the heart of New Orleans, he developed a songwriting style balancing effortless hooks with poignant storytelling about relationships, fears and ambitions. A producer in his own right, he incorporates exploratory guitar work with electronic and hip-hop elements to bring a refreshing and young energy to his compositions. The singalong video for his 2018 single, “Bored In College” features family and friends (including Bella Thorne and Tana Mongeau) singing along to the anthem of a forlorn college dropout. James has shared the stage with , RAC, Atlas Genius, and Mat Kearney.
