Norwegian Rapper Ivan Ave on His New LP, ‘Double Goodbyes’

Norwegian rapper Ivan Ave sits down with The Hype Magazine and talks about this new LP, ‘Double Goodbyes’, his bucket list and vision for 2020.

As you see yourself, who is Ivan Ave?

I’m a reasonably happy dude in my early 30s, looking to enjoy the simple things for as long as I can. I like to ride bikes, play football (soccer) and play with my nephews and nieces. I also like to make music, when it comes out sounding good.

Tell us about your current project?

Double Goodbyes is an ambivalent handshake at the end of a decade of making rap songs. I tried to not make another rap album, and was halfway successful. Sasac was my main collaborator on the production side this time around. I like how the record came out different from previous projects, but still feels like a natural addition to my catalogue. I was able to get some things out of my system, both creatively and emotionally, so I feel ready to start making new stuff again soon.

What’s on your bucket list to accomplish as an entertainer?

This answer is too wholesome, but I get the most out of people telling me that a song of mine helped them somehow. I also like to rock crowds, so my bucket list would just be 100 points of different variations and combinations of these two accomplishments.

What’s on your horizon for 2020?

I will be completing my teaching degree this spring, so when «Double Goodbyes» is out and I’m done with school… I will be riding bikes in the woods and going to the studio more. Also want to get paid stupid money for my music and buy a place to live.

The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?

One time on tour with Mndsgn, I had this Lion King «Circle of Life» bit I would go into at the end of my song «The Circle», like a Rafiki themed freestyle. At the Budapest show, somebody came barging through the crowd to give me a copy of The Lion King on VHS while I was doing the bit. I still wonder how that moment came to be.
