R&B Sensation “Sincere The Truth” Proving More Than Rappers Coming Out of New Orleans

Sincere The Truth describes the “Perfect” woman in new single!

When you think of New Orleans music, jazz, rap and even second line music takes center stage. It’s the home of jazz, several successful rappers have expressed themselves through the pen from the Big Easy and second lines are as second nature as gumbo and crawfish. Although, there have been a few R&B artists to come from New Orleans, it’s few and far between. Enter, Sincere The Truth. STT, has a smooth voice, can hit different ranges and continues to show his versatility in his own music and some of his Instagram covers that he’s been doing during this quarantine; from Usher, Kem, Avant, Tyrese and Daniel Caesar,  Sincere has you covered. He recently dropped this year’s woman’s anthem with, “Perfect,” which is a sneak peek into his real-life current situation. The voice of the boot.

During our recent conversation, Sincere reveals his reasoning behind taking a break from music, the meaning behind his new single, “Perfect,” and much more!

What’s up with you? How are you doing?

Sincere The Truth: Everything is good. It can be better, but you gotta make the best of it, ya know.

Where you from?

Sincere The Truth: I’m from the Westbank of New Orleans. I grew up right near Marrero, but I spent a lot of time in Downtown, New Orleans. I graduated from John Ehret High School in 2009.

For sure. You have been entertaining your supporters through Instagram Live concerts in your living room. As much as it’s entertaining us, I’m sure it’s therapeutic for you as well.

Since The Truth: Yeah it is! It’s kind of hard not being in front of crowds like I’m used to. I still make a way to the studio. I have something that I’m working on. It’s motivational music that I’ve been doing, so be on the lookout for that in the next couple of weeks. But Instagram Live definitely helps.

Has it been tougher to create new content while secluded and not being able to draw from things you would see on an everyday scroll or easier because you’re locked inside of your thoughts?

Sincere The Truth: It’s a mixture of both. For a long time, I used to make a lot of music just off of being secluded inside or trapped inside. I locked myself in a room and let my mind wander. But as I started getting older and experiencing more things, I started using things outside like nature and incorporating it into my writing as well, so it’s been a mixture of both.

You have showed a wide range in some of these covers you have been doing, from Avant to Kem. Was that the goal, to show off some layers?

Sincere The Truth: Exactly! I definitely wanted to display my different ranges and styles. I have different ways that I can express myself in different music. I’m a fan of music, period. So, there is not one particular genre that I associate myself with. But I also want to be firm in being an R&B singer, but just know that I’m versatile. I can touch any beat.

You’re in a lane of your own because for the most part, New Orleans is known for rap and its rappers. You bring something different with the vocals.

Sincere The Truth: No, there are not many at all from New Orleans. I was inspired by Michael Jackson. I used to listen to a lot of Michael Jackson when I was younger.

How often can we expect these covers on Instagram?

Sincere The Truth: When I first started, it was to take advantage of the free time that we have. I was watching the dates myself and I was doing them every 2-days. I started letting a lot of people catch on and I started doing it every 4-days. So, we’re overdue for another one. Be looking out for another cover, I will be doing one pretty soon.

How do you select which song you are going to cover?

Sincere The Truth: It’s very strategic. I look at YouTube and I see the amount of views a song has. I go off of how many times a song has been viewed. If an Avant or Kem song has 20 million views, then I will choose that song. I know if 20 million people viewed it, that should be something they’re familiar with, and I’ll perform that particular song.

How important is it for you to stay rooted in your true R&B sound?

Sincere The Truth: It’s very important because I don’t want to be pulled into, he’s a bounce singer or he’s R&B/hip-hop. I want to be firmly rooted in R&B. That’s why I don’t put out any albums. That’s why I just put out singles.

At one point you took a hiatus from music. Was that intentional or just happened that way?

Sincere The Truth: It was definitely unintentional. I had a son. The birth of my son who is 5-months now. But I had to take care of my family. Once I did that, that took about a year and a half with everything. I was coming off of tour and stuff. So, it wasn’t intentional, but you know, family comes first. We take care of family and family takes care of you.

Love the new single, “Perfect.” What’s the origin of the song?

Sincere The Truth: I write about my life and everything that I’m going through on a day to day basis. “Perfect,” came together because it’s about the girl that I’m with now. Everything that we were going through… how I was feeling about her and the birth of my son. Things like that… just made it “Perfect.” It was easy, once I heard the beat. It came out like I wanted it to. Everything is really lived on a day to day, so it’s really not hard for me to make any music. Be on the lookout for my follow-ups. I have some pretty nice follow-ups too.

It seems very important to you to continue to put music out there.

Sincere The Truth: Most definitely! Because I feel like, being that I did take that year and a half off, that was a big gap. Especially if you’re an unsigned artist and you don’t have a humungous following. I feel like putting out music right now is a way to get people… if not back on me on me and let them know that I’m still doing it. But I took necessary precautions with my family. I wasn’t going to miss the birth of my son. I won’t miss his first steps and things like that when he starts walking. Those are things that I didn’t and don’t want to miss. That’s very important. So, this time I’m using very strategically to let people know who is really doing this R&B music. Who is really going to give you back what you were getting from the, Marvin Gaye’s, Luther Vandross and those types of outstanding artists that we miss today.

For someone just getting familiar with you or listening to you for the first time, what can they expect every time they hear, Sincere The Truth?

Sincere The Truth: Unscripted. You’re going to get the raw me every time, man. I rehearse but when I rehearse, I don’t rehearse to program my act so to speak. I rehearse to give you that unscripted performance. I want to give you something different every time. Even though I might have a particular stage set up, my performance will be different at every show.

I’m enjoying what I’m hearing from you, keep doing your thing and I look forward your follow-ups that you’re coming with. Is there anything else you want to say?

Sincere The Truth: Yes! Thank you! I have some follow-ups, so be on the lookout for that coming soon, more singles. Like I said earlier, I have a motivational song that people can workout to and be inspired by and that will be coming in a couple of weeks with visuals. Follow me on Instagram at its_sincere_love.
