A Q&A With New York Hip Hop Artist King Lo
Upstate NY Hip Hop artist King Lo just released his new single called, “Whatchu Wanna Do” on all streaming platforms. Gaining momentum and new fans from all over the world, King Lo wants the track to encourage people not to forget about the times we shared before the pandemic with our family and our friends. I had the chance to sit down with the rising artist to discuss how living in NY affected his musical style, what he’s been up to during quarantine and what fans can anticipate next!
How do you feel growing up in Upstate NY affected your musical style?
Growing Up in Upstate has a lot to do with my style, it’s everything my style is made up of, we’re known for a unique sound here and only people born here have that sound.
What is it about LoFi that you like the most and do you think it’s an underrated genre?
Yea I think it’s definitely underrated, what I like most is the raw aesthetic feel you get from making Lo-Fi music, It says a lot without having to do too much.
Tell us about “Whatchu Wanna Do”. What inspired the track and what is it about?
I got the beat from producer KJRunItUp his beats are crazy and they fit my style perfectly, soon as I got the beat and played it I felt like I was back in the club, vibing and gettin ready to make my move on somethin lol
What have you been up to during quarantine? Have you been feeling creative?
This quarantine has been a blessing in disguise, I’ve been able to get more work done than ever before and I’ve been more focused than ever before so it’s leading to some of the best music I’ve ever made. Not to mention I got time on my hands
Do you feel like artists should be role models? And how do you plan to give back to the music community?
Yes 100%, artists have a huge number of kids and people looking at them and up to them so we’ll end up a role model to somebody at some point regardless, Me and My Team “TeamBeastEntertainment” CEO tbe musab have started a non profit organization called B.E.A.S.T G.A.N.G Foundation Wich focuses on educating communities in a number of different aspects as well as helping the youth with Guiding A Neglected Generation.
What artists are you listening to right now and why?
I listen to a huge variety of artists today wich wasn’t always like that I used to only listen to a handful but in this day and age you have to be open minded and more importantly versatile. These days I listen to Most artists out of NY Like, Lil Tjay , Lil Tecca , A Boogie wit da hoodie, Pop Smoke (RIP) and Pretty much the same for every other region any artist that’s grinding out there I’m listening to em
If you were stuck on a deserted island for 10 years and could only bring 5 albums, what 5 albums would you bring and why?
Nas – illmatic
50cent- Get Rich Or Die Tryin
Tupac- All Eyez On Me
Lil Tecca – We Love you Tecca
Pop Smoke – Meet The Woo 2
In that situation I’d want to have a mix of old school and new school, But vibes for every occasion, I think these albums would do the job lol
What are your plans for releasing music for the rest of 2020? Let us know what fans can look forward to!
After the Release of my EP on May 20th I’ll continue to push those songs and release singles, Then I plan on dropping another project in the Fall. It’s Untitled at the moment but it’s about halfway done. Fans can expect a lot more details on this project in the coming weeks.Tweet
