Balancing Multiple Hats: London Summers On His Music & Entrepreneurship

Creating a name in the music industry is not everyone’s piece of cake, and very few manage to do so while evading the limelight. In a world where success and the desire to be known is optimal, it is rare to meet someone who works behind the scenes, and doing a fabulous job while doing so! But fitting into this rare list is a multi-platinum producer, songwriter and an entrepreneur, Jamal Simons a.k.a ‘London Summers’.

His career in music began with his debut single ‘Downtown Savanna’ before he shifted to working as producer and songwriter for multiple hits. He has worked with several #1 hit DJs around the globe, as well as the powerhouses in the world of music. Summers brings five years of substantial experience producing tracks that go on to become global chart-busters. His career includes hits with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike ‘Back 2 U’, ‘Rewind’, ‘Memories’, ‘Stay A While’, and the 2018 hit ‘When I grow up’, which got the combination of Wiz Khalifa as well. These hit numbers in just a few years of behind-the-scenes work with the prominent artistes’ showcase Summer’s lingering genius in the industry. In 2020, he turns executive producer to ‘Take Me To A Nice Place’, a song about hope that has beats and emotions like most of the songs that are patent Summers.

His top hit is unsurprising, ‘When I grow up’, Up’ which brings out the best of emotions with the musical prowess of amazing artists like Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and Wiz Khalifa. The number captures the excitement of childhood dreams with the hopeful, downtempo summer beat that gets you hooked. From young boys to eccentric teenagers, the song encapsulates the rhythm of life’s continuous march forward. The song also has an emotional connect with the artists and Summers, who can relate their childhood experiences with that of the song.

But his genius is seen not only in his work with other artists but his own singles like ‘Downtown Savanna’ and ‘Valley’ also have a following of their own. ‘Downtown Savanna’ is a hit single that weighs in on the pros and cons of a sinking relationship. Valley, which released a year ago, has a unique take on the R&B music and features hazy guitar tunes that are inspiring and have a smoky effect to it. The song showcases his genius not just as a music producer but as an artist too. It has been produced along with Tim Suby and Strech, and has London slowly coming out of the shadows of his music production days to take centre stage along with other big-names in the industry. These songs recreate those feelings, and the tunes are set to be perfect companions to your long drives. They resonate his ability to create themes that tap into the emotional side of the listeners.

But what’s keeping Summers busy these days is not just his music. While music has been a prime focus, life has much more in store for him. In 2019, Summers started his own company that is driving a revolutionary product for the cannabis industry. The company, Eria, is a brainchild of Summers to create an innovative product that leverages the latest technological advances to develop customer-focused cannabis storage devices. The cannabis storage device is already making headway, and the company has raised $500K+ in its initial round of investment.

His success in multiple areas showcases that life has a lot to offer if only one is willing to do more. Passion and an in-built ability to identify areas that can be tapped into for improving the lives of those around you is the inherent key to success. As Summers says in his songs, “There’s no in-between, it’s love, or it’s war.” His passion and full-throttle in life is part of not just the music he brings to the world; his entrepreneur streak also seems to be following a similar pattern.
