Who Is Leo Amari?

“After leaving a well-known music group in the DMV area, Leo Amari the rapper/singer released his second independent album Mud On The Moon on April 24th. Through his first album When It’s All Said And Done he was able to express the hardships that he endured throughout his life and the first couple of years in the music industry. Now after signing with Twenty-Two Recordings/Universal Music Group, Leo Amari is ready to take his career to the next level.

His project Mud On The Moon showcases his versatility as an artist.  He is truly going to be a pillar in this industry for a long time. The title Mud On The Moon comes from the idea of you shooting for your dreams and showing the critics that you are here to stay. “It’s going to be a tough and bumpy road to reach success but you have to stay consistent and believe in yourself wholeheartedly.”

Linking up with powerhouse producer Finnick, he and Leo Amari were able to bring you a well-rounded project ready to be released to the world. Cross mixing genres with a blend of RnB and Hip-Hop, Leo Amari brings to you a very diverse project that will keep you intrigued from tracks 1 through 8.  With his strong intro “Welcome” he dedicates and pays homage to his favorite artists Lil Wayne with his opening words.”

The Hype Magazine got Leo Amari to weigh in on a few things!

From the outside looking in who is Leo Amari?

From the outside looking in Leo Amari is a very down to earth person who is passionate about music, family and working toward your goals. He understands that everything is a process and you have to take the good with the bad when it involves the music industry. His biggest take on life is consistency is key and you have to work hard for what you want.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I was always around music from a young age. From my mom listening to R&B/Soul, dad listening to pop/blues/funk, and my brother listening to hip hop. I was exposed to a variety of genres growing up, so I guess that’s where I get my versatility from. I started to rap at the age of 10 or 11, gravitating towards artists such as Lil Wayne, Eminem, 50 Cent, Nelly, etc. Tragically in 2007, my father passed away from cancer, which drove me to music on a different level. Giving me a different type of motivation, I started creating music because it was my only way of expressing my emotions. I began to buy my own studio equipment when I was a freshman in high school and that was the beginning of Leo Amari.

What do you want people to get from your music?

From my music I want people to capture not only my mood or vibe when I was creating it, but also the essence of CONSISTENCY! I was not someone who was born with talent; I am someone who worked day in and day out for any amount of my progression. What people may see now is not how I started, I was terrible, but it’s not how you start it’s how you finish. Consistency is the key to anything you may want in life and that is what I live by.

Tell us about your current project and what it means for you?

My current project is called Mud On The Moon. It has 8 tracks that you can listen to seamlessly from top to bottom. I’ve studied and found that the average attention span of listeners has shortened, so I wanted a brief but effective project lineup. Through my first project When It’s All Said And Done I was able to express the hardships that I endured throughout my life and my first couple of years in the music industry. Now with my current project Mud On The Moon I created songs that can be played in clubs, on the radio, at a kickback, etc. just an all around feel good project. Mud On The Moon is a milestone in my life because this is my second independent project. This project was to show my fans and my critics that I can compete with the best and that I am here to leave my footprints in the industry.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

As an introduction to new listeners, I would want them to listen to “Lord Knows” from my current project Mud On The Moon. Through this song you can feel my passion, feel what I hold dear to me, and step into the shoes of me for just a moment. I hurt, bleed, cry, etc like everyone else does and that’s what I like to show through my music; Vulnerability. Majority of my music is me in a vulnerable state expressing current situations that I am going through and that’s what I feel “Lord Knows” captures.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

There’s not much I do outside of music but I enjoy time I have with my family, working out, watching Netflix and playing the piano.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! Moment…

My WTF moment came once I sold my car to buy more studio equipment but then weeks later I realized I didn’t have a way to get around. Bittersweet moment.
