MD Singer KENNY SWAY Conquers Millions of Hearts With his Voice

MD singer Kenny Sway is no stranger to making the headlines or going viral. He’s very well known among Washingtonians as a street singer, and many of his previous performances have gone viral in the past. Like when he sang “I Will Always Love You” in Chinatown to his daughter/ an infant back then, while holding her on his chest in a baby carrier with earmuffs on, or when he sang “The Tracks of My Tears” to a cancer patient who got up and started dancing with him.

But his performance on 16th and I streets near Lafayette Square a little less than a month ago during the intense protests following George Floyd’s death got millions of views and drew a national audience. His rendition of Bill Withers classic “Lean on Me” melted thousands of protesters’ hearts surrounded by Police and National Guard. All raise lighted cellphones and joined Kenny singing. It’s estimated that more than 5000 people were attending the protest that day. We can safely say this is the closest we got to a concert since COVID-19. Kenny is the first artist performing in front of a huge crowd in the past 3 months.

Kenny is a very genuine artist, who became a real advocate for the black community in the aftermath of Floyd’s death, leading almost daily peaceful protests dominated by love, peace, unity and his music. He started out as a street artist years ago, serenading the streets of Maryland and DC, but he is still going out in the streets to perform for the people who can’t afford to buy tickets to his concerts.
