Trev Drops Heat With “Maria”

19-year-old Filipino rapper and R&B singer Trev is officially back from nearly a year-long break from his previous solo release, with a groove-filled hip-hop single titled “Maria”, released independently on all streaming platforms this 26th of June

With rising producer SNARE on the song’s production, ‘Maria’ is a trap beat affair of Latino-inspired guitar arrangements and fast-paced rap altogether. The track is a tribute to the trend of fast-paced culture and infatuation lasting not longer than a minute. With the Spanish references snuck in, the flute playing loudly, and distant guitar melodies on the piece, one can’t fail to be reminded of the Latino culture that the track embodies.

“You can’t survive if you don’t learn the business, the Art only feeds the soul but not the body” – Trev

Big names such as Meechy Darko and BROCKHAMPTON have greatly influenced Trev in his creative mindset, shown in his songs focused on experiences and struggles of young adults with deep underlying symbolism and imagery of the nightlife and its culture. His arbitrary chic is nothing of the ordinary for the Pacific.

Trev as an artist is no newcomer to the scene. The Cebuano singer and rapper has been releasing hit after hit since the surprising age of 16, with his debut track ‘Purple Dreams’, which immediately spread like wildfire on Soundcloud and gained 60,000 streams on Spotify. Later on, his hit-track full of club vibes ‘Say It’ featuring Sober premiered live on television on MYX Philippines. Trev has even opened up for hallmark of Cebuano pop, Midnasty, and member of the Careless collective, Massiah, in past events such as Beat This PH and XVIBE night.

On top of that, Trev reached new heights just last year, with his single, ‘Hurt The Ones I Love’ reaching the 29th spot on the Spotify-curated playlist Viral Top 50 PH. The R&B singer has previously come out with Cebuano rising star Xuede as well, releasing ‘Going Under’, a track signed under Warner Music Philippines, a display of his fortitude throughout the years in the scene.

The Cebuano music scene has yet to witness a song like Maria from one of its very own. Trev has indeed lined up a Maria music video scheduled to be dropped on the 28th of June
