Dyllón Burnside Makes Solo Music Debut With “Silence”

Dyllón Burnside releases his debut single, “Silence,” Friday, July 17, 2020. The single, which marks Burnside’s solo music debut, previews a forthcoming EP and is available now to stream and download on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube.

Burnside has also debuted an accompanying music video, filmed and produced during quarantine.

Burnside says about the single, “We live in a culture that is so outwardly focused and hinges on external validation. Our inner lives are easily neglected while likes, follower counts, and other social barometers have become the priority. This song and the video I made to accompany it is me literally holding a mirror up to myself and the ways in which I neglect myself. I hope it can act in the same way for those who experience it. Through it, I’m encouraging others to slow down, embrace the silence and listen to the still small voice that is surely there calling us to deeper intimacy with ourselves.”

On his solo music debut, Burnside describes, “Music was my first love. I started a group when I was twelve and fell in love with the creative process and the recording studio. I’m so excited to be releasing music as a solo artist and grateful for the opportunity to give listeners glimpses of my inner life and private thoughts and feelings.”

Originally written in December 2019, “Silence” is more relatable than ever as people are living through one of the most isolating times in history. “This song is important for this time because so many people are experiencing some degree of anxiety. I’ve talked to countless people who have described the hardest

thing about quarantine to be the loneliness. People’s entire social lives have been stripped away from them in one fell swoop. That’s a serious trauma that knocks many of us off balance and it takes time and intentionality to correct. Technology and social media have blessed us in so many ways, but so many of us are pleading for help with every post, comment, like and DM – asking to be seen, wanted and distracted from loneliness. Hopefully ‘Silence’ will help further the dialogue around this issue, mental health and self-care and encourage people to cultivate a stronger relationship with themselves now and beyond the circumstances created by Covid-19.”
