G.R.I.T. Boys Scooyunda Goes Solo With “Best You Knew”
You cannot discuss Houston’s contributions to and influence on Rap music without the G.R.I.T. Boys coming up. Outside of UGK and Geto Boys, the trio are Houston’s only legitimate Rap group, with a rich history spanning decades.
It’s been a few though since the guys put out a body of work and G.R.I.T. frontman, Scooyunda aka Scooby felt the need to fill the creativity gap with a solo effort inspired by a moment with his daughter.
“Best You Knew” was inspired by an interaction I had with my 3 year old daughter one evening in February. We were in her room and somehow took a selfie. After I showed her the picture we took, we look at one another and she asked me softly “’Dad are you my best friend?’ I responded…. “Best you knew.“
What resulted was 8 songs of carefully chosen beats and personally crafted lyrics, mixed and mastered by James Hoover, that Scooby feels is some of his best work to date. As a product of Houston’s famous Sunnyside neighborhood, he knows he has big shoes to fill.
“I’m just trying to represent Houston like we always been doing.” Scooby says confidently. “We always came with it.”
