How to Stay Cool This Summer

Many people dread summer because of its high temperatures. On torrid days, the only soothing thought might be looking at winter accessories on youngchoppers.com and picturing yourself in a cool place. However, there’s plenty you can do to increase your comfort during hot summer days and prevent high temperatures from spoiling the charm of this season. Here are some useful tips that can help you find ease during oppressive heat.

Take care of your body’s needs 

You might not have thought about it but, in many cases, the secret to becoming more tolerant to high temperatures lies in your body. Many people ignore this fact and they simply rely on external means to keep their body cooler while the temperatures outside are rising to dazzling levels.

One of the things everyone knows about heat is that it dehydrates the body. You lose the vital liquid that keeps it going and functioning properly – water – and, of course, you need to make up for this by hydrating more.

While drinking more water during hot summers comes as natural to most of us, there are also plenty of people who still disregard the importance of proper hydration. Water is essential on any given day, but more so in high temperatures. When the body is not well-hydrated, you start having problems concentrating, you feel tired, and you can even have migraines.

The first step you need to take to be able to boldly face summer’s heat is to stay hydrated. If you usually drink little water, you can make a schedule during the summer to help you up your water intake. Consider drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day and try doing this at regular intervals so that you remember not to skip any.

If you want to make things easier, you can set an alarm to help you stick to this healthy and necessary routine. Moreover, there are also plenty of applications you can install on your smartphone if you want to keep track of the amount of water you drink daily and get reminders each time you need to replenish. 

Adjust your diet

Water intake is important to avoid discomfort during the summer, but so is making wise choices when it comes to your diet. Once the temperatures outside exceed the level you would call pleasurable, your body immediately feels the effects as you start eliminating water by sweating.

The problem is not only that sweat ruins your good looks. It also makes you lose some of the essential nutrients that literally drain from your body. Some of the key elements we lose when sweating excessively are vitamin C, sodium, calcium, or potassium. 

To make up for the missing amounts, you should focus on a diet that’s rich in vitamins and minerals. Fruits and salads shouldn’t miss from your summer diet because they are loaded with vitamins and they contain a lot of water too. Moreover, these foods usually make you feel energized and light after each meal.

Another thing that might help you is taking small doses of vitamin C. According to studies, this vitamin can boost your resistance to heat by helping your sweat glands work better at high temperatures. This will slow down the process of heat exhaustion and enable you to tolerate high temperatures better as your body temperature will not increase so fast. 

Moreover, if you are looking for specific foods or drinks that can help you regulate your body temperature, keep in mind spicy food and peppermint tea. The first produces certain reactions in the body that help you sweat more, hence feel cooler. The second instantly gives you a soothing and cool sensation due to its menthol.

Contrarily, there are also foods you should avoid because they can actually make you feel warmer. We hate to break it to you but, paradoxically, ice cream is one of them. This tasty dessert often has a high caloric intake which puts strain on your digestive system and ends up raising your temperature rather than cooling you. 

In the same category, we also have that juicy and yummy barbeque we love to indulge in every now and then. Red meat is not the best choice on a torrid day because it requires a lot of effort to digest. For this, your body uses more energy, which increases your temperature. 

 Redecorate your space with plants

If you don’t like having house plants because, well, they do require care and effort, you might want to change your mind about them this summer. Houseplants not only purify the air in the room and help you decorate your space, but they can also help you cope with high temperatures easier. 

Plants can make your room feel cooler. The more you have, the more you will feel this effect. They have this ability because they naturally balance the humidity level in enclosed spaces, increasing your comfort. 

Hot summer days don’t have to be a nightmare. Knowing what to eat, drink, and how to keep your house cooler can help you get through the hot season easier and actually enjoy it while it lasts.
