Joël releases profound single ‘Well Done’ and Grunge Gospel EP Rerelease

Independent Toronto-based R&B artist Joël returns with deeply personal new single “Well Done”. Out today as a bonus track, the single is part of a special re-release of Joël’s previous EPs GRUNGE GOSPEL (SIDE A & B) bundled together.

The track was written by Joël after losing his Grandmother Loretta to COVID-19 earlier this year. A touching tribute to her legacy, Loretta played a big part in Joël’s up-bringing after she stepped in to help raise him while his mother went out to work.

The first verse opens with Joël expressing his appreciation for her love and support – “I’ve been at ease kicked back, feet up, you gave us wealth. Lot of recipes hit max, bags packed you raised us well”. Sung over a soft, piano ladened beat, the heartfelt single has Joël coming to terms with his loss “Hard to see you depart from us, here but now it’s time to cash out. Leaves are falling and you gotta go. It’s time to rock out…I know it’s hard to be here on your own”. The track closes with sound clips from old family movies.

Following on from last September’s ‘GRUNGE GOSPEL (SIDE A)’ and his May 2020 release ‘GRUNGE GOSPEL (SIDE B)’ – an EP exclaim! described as “a beautiful continuation of his genre-bending catalogue” – Joël releases a special bundled edition of the two projects.

Out now on DSPs, “Well Done” makes a poignant statement allowing Joël to explore his emotions and, once again, use his music as a form of therapy.
