WEIRDO – “Fakin'”

When WEIRDO first emerged from the studio a few years back, he started out by releasing a demo called ‘Disco’ on Majestic Casual’s YouTube channel which quickly spun up a fuss and amassed more than 1 million plays…he then disappeared.

After some studio time and then re-emerging from the silence, he released ‘BUTTER’ and ‘ARMANIO’, two quirky singles which both received #1’s on Hype Machine and Human Human whilst entering various Spotify and Apple Music playlists.

With track ‘SAPPHIRE’, he collaborated with some friends; on drums played by Debbie Knox-Hewson (Charli XCX, Nasty Cherry) and bass played by Pierre Leck. Renowned photographer James Perolls took pictures for the release.

Press came from some of the blogosphere’s most respected outlets such as W Magazine, Pigeons and Planes, DIY, Clash and The Line of Best Fit.

Annie Mac announced WEIRDO in her New Names playlist on her BBC Radio 1 show whilst it was also included in the BBC Introducing Best Of playlist, by his newest fan Huw Stephens.

After hitting a creative block and focusing on “the normal life” for some time, the non-conformist returned in 2020 with ‘EUROTRASH’, a minimal, sly electronic pop track that shone and reignited the flame of media buzz. With new support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Amazing Radio, a slot in Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Pop playlist, and online outlets such as Vice, Complex, EARMILK talking about it, alongside another Hype Machine top of the chart spot, WEIRDO’s proven he is not just a flash in the pan.

His latest release is dark pop gem ‘FAKIN’, a catchy, ironic, simple yet rather cut-deep track that eludes prowess and sincerity throughout. WEIRDO explains and defines his past experiences lyrically and sonically. Driving drums and dirty synths push forward the lo-fi vocals which hail both sarcasm and true meaning.

As he explains: “Fakin’ is a song I wrote about the world we live in, the people that surround us and the complexities of the modern age. I spent way too much time with and around materialistic people who were in denial of it and once I spent some time alone in thinking mode, I realised that honesty seems a thing of the past for many people nowadays…”

FAKIN’ is set for release on 10 July 2020 via YOUTH LTD/Believe UK.
