blackbear On Writing Hits For Top Stars, His New Album “everything means nothing,” Weezer & More

Since first crashing onto the scene in the mid-2010s, multi-platinum-selling singer, songwriter and producer blackbear has continually turned heads and defied all expectations, effortlessly mixing his hedonistic hell-raising and maniac humor with deeply heartfelt emotion. Delivering an outrageously-catchy hybrid of pop and hip-hop and alt-R&B, the Los Angeles-based artist has put out 4 studio albums in the last 5 years alone, including 2017’s gold-certified Digital Druglord and 2019’s magnum opus ANONYMOUS; his 2019 full-length was a #36 hit on the Billboard 200. Hyper-creative and massively-prolific, he has also collaborated with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Linkin Park alike, and brought his top-notch songwriting skills to Justin Bieber’s six-times-platinum single “Boyfriend.”

Showing no signs of slowing down, recently joined in a series of exciting collaborations, including Marshmello’s epic 2019 single “Tongue Tied” (also featuring Yungblud). Additionally, he is set to return with a new body of work this year which pushes his brilliantly warped artistry even further. But perhaps more importantly, blackbear’s 5th studio album everything means nothing is out on August 21, 2020 via Beartrap/Alamo/Interscope Records. “If I Were U,” featuring Lauv, is the latest single from everything means nothing, as following other successful singles via “Hard On Yourself” with Charlie Puth, “My Ex’s Best Friend” with Machine Gun Kelly, and “Lil Bit” off the 2021 Madden soundtrack.

As embedded below, I had the pleasure of speaking with blackbear via Zoom on August 19, 2020 about everything means nothing and plenty more.
