Brisbane’s Syrup Bring the Sonic Embodiment of Happy Hour With New Single ‘Sun’

Brisbane alt-pop outfit Syrup have released their latest single, ‘Sun’. Embracing the best parts of the Summer season, the track weaves breezy vocals together with a shiny guitar riff. ‘Sun’ is the duo’s first self-produced single and stylistically signals a movement towards a bold new sound.

On the single, Harry of Syrup explains; ‘The idea for Sun came when Spring was handing over to Summer, jumpers were coming off and I was spending every other day in a mates pool. The whole aesthetic of this time bled through into the music I was working on. I’m especially proud of Sun as it is our first foray into self-production and a bold new step in our project.’

Syrup is the alt-pop project of childhood friends Harry Pratt and Henry Anderson. Originally from Kingaroy, Queensland, the pair bonded through a common love of skateboarding and music. Following some time apart, Anderson and Pratt reconnected, with their friendship and musical talents leading to the creation of ‘Syrup.’ Taking influence from The Cure, David Bowie, Metronomy, and Ariel Pink, Syrup’s sound combines infectious pop conventions with electric synths. Henry’s mature, affecting baritone vocal and melodic guitar work in harmony with Harry’s synth-pop smarts create a treat for the ears and soul. 2019 saw the band release their first single ‘Something to Wear’ and later their debut EP, The Sponge, which featured production from Slum Sociable’s Edward QuinnThe Sponge received support from The Music, 4ZZZ, ToneDeaf and Triple J Unearthed as well as playlisting across Apple Music and Spotify. With these buzzing releases under their belt, the duo played two sold-out headline shows as well as support slots for the likes of Slum Sociable, Miami Horror and Jaguar Jonze.

‘Sun’ is the duo’s second release for 2020, following on from ‘Line’ released earlier this year. Stay tuned for more from Syrup!
