Exclusive Interview: 1200 Slim

Hope you are well, healthy, and safe! How are you handling the lockdown, and how is it affecting your work?

I am well and healthy, staying inside as much as I could, following all health regulations, especially during travel. It’s affecting more of the physical footwork. But not social media as much. So I can pretty much say Covid has put me in a balanced place in my career. Plus real HUSTLERS GON ADAPT.

Please tell us more about your new release, “Tik Tok,” and the inspiration behind it?

“Tik Tok” was actually inspired by the actual Tik Tok app. My little nieces and nephew were just running around making Tik Toks so I was like ima just make a song called Tik tok

How did growing-up between Louisiana and Atlanta shape the kind of Hip-Hop you make?

Well I mean, being from Louisiana always kept me with a raw yet soulful flow and 92% of my life stories come from the bayou so that sound will be embedded in me foreva, I was raised on cash money & no limit, Soulja slim, and I’ve been back and forth to Atlanta since a kid, whether it was for a school year or two, or every chance I could possibly go, which was pretty much often being we had a house there. So my friends was bumping Dungeon Family, Outkast, Youngbloods, T.I., Ludacris, etc. and that kind of opened my mind to different elements of rap in the south. Made my creative process something other than normal.

You were released from prison in 2014, after a three year sentence, and that’s when you started taking rap more seriously, what was going on through your mind at the time?

Well being released at that time as far as music I felt the industry could use what I had to offer. And  I just had a strong feeling that I was supposed to choose this route. It’s just in me.

What is one experience in life that, without it, you wouldn’t be the artist you are today?

I think every experience, good or bad I’ve had up to this current day and time molded me and the music I make. And will continue to have those same effects on me as life progresses.

How does your creative process differ now compared to when you started?

Now I’m way more comfortable with just being able to create. Period. When I first started, I was just all over the place. Trying to make one kind of song. Or one type of sound. Being fully aware of my musical capabilities makes it way easier to create. I’ve even been using my FREESTYLE.

Who is the best rapper to have walked the earth in your opinion, and why?

It’s funny you ask that? I’d say me.

But s/o to all the legends tho I downloaded a lot of game from the greats

If you could take anyone in the world dead or alive for dinner, who would it be?

I’d have to take my UNCLE Zeek (Frank) and my step dad Hollis to dinner. So I could show them that everything’s fine. And it’s only up from here. Drink some 42 with my old heads over lobster. Couldn’t ask for more.

Please tell us more about your upcoming album Revelations? What does it represent for you?

“Revelations” the album means a whole lot to me as an artist. Using many different sounds, to express my versatility being my second actual project I feel that the world would get a better understanding of where I’m coming from. And Also have a great respect for my lyricism. But It also marks the death of the old me as an artist, and I have projected it to be a cataclysmic reinvention.
