0Joe Barksdale On Finding Success As A Musician After A Great NFL Career, Future Plans & More
Following nearly a decade in the NFL, Joe Barksdale announced his retirement from football in June 2019. But music became the true calling of Barksdale long before that. He started playing guitar in 2013, in the midst of his third season with the St. Louis Rams, and released his first solo album — 2017’s Butterflies, Rainbows & Moonbeams — within a few years of that. 2019’s Electric Soul was helmed with legendary producer and songwriter Narada Michael Walden, a man responsible for helming hits by Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, George Benson, Lionel Richie and countless other greats.
2020 has already seen several new releases from Joe Barksdale, including Black Majik, Moonbeam and R & B(eats). And as he told me during our conversation via Zoom on August 21, 2020 — as embedded below for your viewing and listening pleasure — that he has plans 2 more releases this year. In turn, it is safe to say that Barksdale is shaping up to be much better-known for his musical endeavors than for his years of being associated with the National Football League and the sport of football as a whole.
