Abuse and Dependency – the Shocking Truth Behind Marina Matiss’ Happy Summer Tune “Lovebugs”

Marina’s newest single Lovebugs is a light, beautiful summer tune but it has a few dark undertones. “Lovebugs” is light and happy, what fans expect from her. But it also has a dark side from some times in her life that found its way into her music.

“There was a lot of physical and mental abuse from my parents, complete dependency and simply no room for dreams in music.”

She always knew she wanted to sing since she was 4 but her family wanted her to concentrate on getting a “real job”. “There was a lot of physical and mental abuse from her parents, complete dependency and simply no room for dreams in music,” she says. So she had to escape. She eventually went to college and earned multiple degrees, is fluent in 7 languages, and continued making music while working a 9 to 5. Inspired by the film adaptation of “Bohemian Rhapsody” she finally made the jump to pursue her career in music.

So that deeper connection with independence inspired her single Lovebugs.

Spending her days between Madrid and Barcelona, the happy summer vibe in Lovebugs is certainly influenced by living next to the beach right now. Her next project will be in Spanish, and she shot the music video entirely by the sea and it has a burning piano in it. But that’s a story for another time.
