Pearl Kimistry Breaksdown Her Sultry Sound, Surviving Cancer, and Her New Single “NLFM”

Rising Pompano Beach, FL artist Pearl Kimistry has been hitting the Atlanta music scene running in 2020. Raised as one of 10 siblings, she learned early on how to make her voice heard. Like many singers, she came up performing in the church choir with her singing mother serving up direction and encouragement. Today, her sultry sound is reaching larger audiences across the nation.

It’s no coincidence that the artists Pearl Kimistry admires include Toni Braxton, Anita Baker and Jill Scott. As her first two singles, “Nothing Left For Me” and “Is It Real,” indicate, Pearl Kimistry, too, creates the kind of smooth, relatable and real tracks that listeners want to groove to again and again. “I write all of my songs,” she reveals. “They come from everything I’ve gone through or felt in terms of relationships, grief, self-love and love for my people.”

The performer says that “Nothing Left For Me” is about someone saying that they’re sorry and wrongly expecting that to be enough. “Is It Real,” she explains, is about the frustration of a lover’s actions and words not matching up. R&B sensation King James Worthy recorded, mixed and mastered both of Pearl Kimistry’s singles, and she’s worked with Painfully Gifted Visuals for video production.

Being a breast cancer survivor and coming from a family affected by cancer has made this beautiful spirit both strong and compassionate. She’s also a devoted mother, a pool shark, a self-described “Karaoke junkie,” and an ardent proponent of social justice.

Hype: Where you from?

Pearl Kimistry: Exit 36!! Pompano Beach, Florida

Hype: Who are your musical influences?

Pearl Kimistry: Whitney Houston but also sultry singers like Toni Braxton, Rachelle Ferrell, Anita Baker and even India Carney

Hype: How’d you first get involved in music?

Pearl Kimistry: I don’t remember that far back. I’ve been writing poetry and music for as far back as I can remember. I recall writing a gospel song at the age of maybe 8 or 9. Since I became older,  gospel songs and love songs have been my thing.

Hype: What‘s your favorite song of all-time?

Pearl Kimistry: I have several favorites. But the one that comes to mind is Yearning For Your Love by The Gap Band. I love the lyrics. I love the flow of the song and the way it feels. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

Hype: What does the city of Atlanta mean to you?

Pearl Kimistry: The city of Atlanta means life to me. I say that because I came here and found myself. I learned who I am in Atlanta. I love this city. 95404 (954 Pompano & 404 Atlanta)

Hype: What is a dream with a plan?

Pearl Kimistry: Strategically establishing my steps in order to make my dreams come true.

Hype: You beat cancer how was that fight and why do you think so many are affected in our community? What’s the best advice you can give to someone in a same situation?

Pearl Kimistry: The fight was a rough. But God made me tough. Families are affected from having hereditary genes, from losing loved ones, etc. Cancer is a beast that needs a cure. I advise everyone to get tested. Have mammogram, colonoscopies, genetic testing, etc. Catching it early can be the difference between life and death.

Hype: You recently released your first single NLFM, what does “NLFM” mean? What inspired the single?

Pearl Kimistry: NLFM was pretty much inspired by a relationship I felt there’s was nothing left to say. It was happiness over history.

Hype: Who would you like to work with in the future?

Pearl Kimistry: Chris Brown

Hype: What’s next for you?

Pearl Kimistry: Making more music. Writing more songs.
