Q&A: Blizzyboy LJ is Showing Audiences Why He’s Next Up

Born and raised between Hartford, CT and New York, independent artist BlizzyBoy LJ was destined to be a star. He encompasses a very different musical style of sound that can be described as a mixture of an East Coast, flashy, gritty and smooth.

In a recent interview, the independent artist said that one of his goals in pursuing a career in music is “build a music catalog that will last forever” and “have generations of people” that will listen to his music.

Blizzy is definitely on the right track. With the release of his single “Life into the streets” earlier this year in April, he’s showing audiences what he’s truly capable of.

We had the opportunity to learn more about BlizzyBoy LJ and where his inspiration for music really comes from. Keep reading to learn who BlizzyBoy LJ is.

What inspired your artist name? And where did you get the name from?

I named myself BlizzyBoy LJ. The BlizzyBoy part of my name came from me being in the inner city neighborhoods and I would make jokes about going to the “hood” which was my moms house (which wasn’t really the hood) and say to my friends “come to the blizzy” and LJ comes from my real name is LJ (Lamonte John)!

Where are you from (born and raised)? And where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut. My mom is from Connecticut and my dad was born and raised in New York so I would split my time as a kid growing up in CT and NY. I would spend my summers in NY and go to School in CT until my junior and senior year in high school when I moved to NY (2013).

I currently live in Hollywood, CA and moved here in 2015 from NY. Before living in Hollywood I lived in Cerritos and moved to Hollywood in 2017 to pursue music more seriously.

How would you describe your sound/style?

My musical style is a mixture of an east coast sound of flashy, gritty and smooth. I talk a lot the designer life style.

Do you also write, produce, and/or engineer your own music?

I only write my own music. My man Swigga is my engineer and producer.

Why music? Describe your passion for why you chose this career.

As a kid when I was growing up I was raised around a lot of music, when I was younger my dad would play Teddy Pendergrass, Jay Z, Marvin Gay and Sam Cooke. When my dad would be playing this music he would always tell me “THIS IS REAL MUSIC” and turn it up really loud.

Listening to artist like the ones I mentioned above is what made me extremely passionate about music because good music is what inspired me to make my own mark with what I feel like good music sounds like these days.

Who/what inspires your sound/music?

Jay Z, Meek Mill, Teddy Pendergrass.

Who is your motivation and why?

My grandfather, Richard Weaver-bey is my motivation because he showed me the true definition of what it takes to hustle from what you really want and be successful.

What impact are you looking to make with your music? Who do you want to impact?
The impact that I am looking to make with my music is to show the hustlers that came from nothing to that they can make something of themselves and that they too can do it.

Any life changing stories/incidents that impacted your music career, your decision to do music, your journey, etc?

Two things that impacted my music career was me going homeless and losing my father. Experiencing these two things in my life is what influenced my decision to go harder with music as well as my journey, it gave me more drive and instilled more of a hustler mentality.

What are you most known for? What got you noticed?

I am most know for a vine video that was my freestyle video that I made in 2014. I don’t know how the video went viral because all I did was freestyle.

Have you performed and/or participated in any talent shows and/or television shows?

Yes, I have performed before. I opened for Migos in 2016 Santa Barbara, 21 savage in 2017 Santa Barbara, Lil Durk in 2019 in Connecticut, Famous Dex in 2016 in NY. I was able to open for these artists because the event-booking group reached out to me through IG and presented the opportunity. I stopped performing because of school then started back in 2019 and everything came to a halt again because of COVID-19.

What message do you want to leave the audience with when reading the article?
