“Two Minutes To Late Night” Co-Creator Jordan Olds On Curating Covers, Van Halen, DLR & More

As far as I know, Two Minutes To Late Night is the world’s only heavy metal-themed talk show. Launched in 2018 by Jordan Olds and Drew Kaufman, the show began with episodes taped at Brooklyn, New York hotspot Saint Vitus. In the midst of COVID-19, Two Minutes To Late Night has responsibly changed formats — although common to popular belief, the show previously planned to do so prior to the current pandemic hitting the United States — and now puts out new videos each week via its YouTube channel, as featuring top-notch musicians collaborating on rock classics.

An example of the incredible material that Two Minutes To Late Night has been releasing as of late, you ask? On August 4th the channel uploaded a performance of The Misfits’ “Earth AD,” as recorded by The E Street Band’s Max Weinberg, My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero, The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman and Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta. Yes, THAT Max Weinberg playing THAT song. Another recent favorite of mine saw members of Tool, Primus, Mastodon, Coheed & Cambria and Cave In performing a Rush classic. And practically every one of those fully-produced covers includes the aforementioned Jordan Olds (in full makeup and attire as excellent alter-ego “Gwarsenio Hall”) playing and/or singing.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jordan Olds via Zoom on August 10, 2020 about Two Minutes To Late Night, as embedded below. More on Two Minutes can be found via www.facebook.com/2M2LN, www.youtube.com/channel/UC4Cmvvc9ZmyQ412RzXhYoEg, www.patreon.com/2M2LN.
