0Ahmet Zappa On His Multi-Faceted Career, Managing The Zappa Family Trust & Much More
Ahmet Zappa is a singer, actor, New York Times best-selling author, screenwriter, radio host (e.g. SiriusXM’s Rocktails), publisher and businessman. He also happens to be the executor of the Zappa Family Trust, overseeing the catalog of his legendary father Frank Zappa. In turn, he has not only overseen the release of fine art, but has also help create plenty of it via Monsterfoot Productions.
While Frank Zappa left us over 25 years ago in 1993, his estate continues to unearth previously-unreleased, high-quality content all these years later. A “king-size six disc” set titled Halloween 81 will be released on October 2nd, as featuring more than 70 unreleased tracks and a Count Frankula mask and cape. Just a few months prior in June 2020, a new collection of 70 previously-unreleased tracks from Frank Zappa’s 1970s Mothers lineup was released via Zappa Records and Universal Music Enterprises as The Mothers 1970. And a few months prior to that in late 2019, 2 Zappa Estate-endorsed books — Zappa Gear: The Unique Guitars, Amplifiers, Effects Units, Keyboards & Studio Equipment and The Hot Rats Book — were released; Ahmet Zappa co-authored the aforementioned The Hot Rats Book.
On September 11, 2020, I had the pleasure of interviewing Ahmet Zappa, as embedded below. We discussed his management of the Zappa Family Trust, his multi-faceted career, why he prefers to work behind the camera, future plans and more.
