Djooky Awards Winner Gina Brooklyn Chats With us About Her Latest Accolade and Music Ambitions

Ohio-born songstress Gina Brooklyn beat off stiff competition that included artists from 55 countries across the globe, to win the Summer edition of The Djooky Music Awards, The World’s Biggest Global Song Contest, with her track No More Hiding. The unique singer/songwriter netted a money can’t buy prize that included an all-expenses-paid trip to the iconic Capitol Studios in Los Angeles to record a song with award-winning producer award-winning Brian Malouf and to attend coaching sessions with global music experts and executives. Topped off with a cash prize of $10k.

Gina’s musical style combines a multitude of influences that transcend through genres. She creates a captivating ambiance for her distinctive vocals, soul-gripping melodies, and engaging lyrics, and can lure even the most demanding listeners into her world. The popstrel started her music career at the tender age of 15 when she co-wrote and recorded a song that led her to become a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2017.

Here she fills us in on her musical journey and her hopes and aspirations for the future.

Who inspires your music?

Many artists, people, places and things.I listen to all kinds of music and if you listen to the rest of my songs, you’d hear that what I create is inspired by so many different styles.

What made you enter the DMA?

As an independent artist, I am always looking for new opportunities that could help my career. After I saw the Djooky Awards and how much they cared about independent artists, I had to enter immediately. I loved everything they stood for.

What were your expectations going into the contest?

I had very low expectations for myself- I enter into contests all the time, so I kind of approached it with a lottery ticket-esque mindset, knowing that they offered wonderful opportunities but not expecting to win whatsoever. And boy, when I won, I was very surprised.

How would you describe the experience?

Absolutely wonderful. I really appreciated how this contest was set up and the way the Djooky team went about everything. They made sure it was fair in every possible way, and were so kind throughout the whole process! They truly made it easy and painless.

What is No More Hiding about?

No More Hiding is a song about redemption and truth. I wanted to portray a message of self-realisation that ultimately leads to bettering and holding yourself accountable for faults and wrongdoings. It’s a song about hope and moving on, trying to be a better version of yourself.

How would you describe its sound?

It’s very cinematic with a bluesy, pop kind of feel. Very powerful and heavy.

What have you been up to since winning?

Writing and recording in my bedroom studio. Thankfully I’ve been able to get a lot done during this crazy time.

Do you have any advice for future contestants?

Promote your song. Campaign as best as you can. Enjoy the ride. This is such a great opportunity for independent artists and I wish you all the best!

The Djooky Music Awards (DMA), the first global online song contest, is now accepting applications from Artists and Songwriters all over the world. The deadline for entries is until Nov 23rd, 23:59:59 GMT. For more information visit: Djooky Awards
