0Marlowe Is Fearless and Empowered In New Music Video for ‘Low Low’
What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I’m from Toronto, now based in LA.
What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?My artist name is Marlowe. Real name is Olivia Furiato. I was drinking the wine Merlot one night and Marlowe came to mind, it just felt right.
At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?
I was 14 years old when I started to consider singing and writing as a career but didn’t leave for LA until 16.
How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?Soulful Pop. My music could be best described as very melodic or something to vibe out to. You can relate to my lyrics, especially for anyone in love or searching for love and the struggle in between.
What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?
It’s the most important source of motivation for me in my life now. It provides a real sense of fulfillment to perform and express myself through music. I never understood how I can translate that into a career until I met some special people who are part of my incredible team who have taught me how to treat this as my livelihood.
What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
I am inspired by people and those that have overcome both important issues and the grind of daily life. I also use my own human experiences as a young lady to reflect on the common ground that binds all people. Musically, I love the soulful sound of Aretha Franklin. I listened to a variety of Pop, soul, and rock artists including Ariana Grande, Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, Adele, to name a few. I also enjoy listening to composers and music that I grew up with in church. I started singing in church at a very young age.
Who are some of your main musical influences?
It varies from Mariah Carey, to Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé/Destiny’s Child, Mary J. Blige, Joss Stone, Frank Ocean, Bryson tiller and many more. My musical influence is very broad growing up until now.
What are some of your music career goals for the future?
I hope to sell out a tour. I want to be able to perform my songs and inspire those who listen to my music. I’d want to be successful in multiple platforms whether that includes the fashion or beauty industry. It is something that I am very interested in. I also wanna make people feel warm and less alone when they listen to my music, just like my favorite artists did for me. That is my biggest goal.
Tell us about your latest EP release Puzzle. What is it about?
Puzzle is really about me being a teenager, piecing my life together bit by bit while struggling with the challenges any teenager may face day to day. Whether it’s heartbreak, love, friends or adjusting to your own skin. This EP is definitely something you can relate to and music you can vibe to whenever you need.
What has the response been like to that project?
I have received a lot of positive feedback from my peers in the industry, but more importantly, I am so happy that my followers have responded with support and love for the music.
What are some projects you’ve done in the past that you are most proud of and why?My other two releases before my EP were singles. Out the “Shadows” and “Low Low” ( “Low Low” is on the EP). I am most proud of “Low Low,” I wrote it during a very tough time in my life mentally. I am usually a very positive and bubbly person. I found myself struggling to get out of bed in the morning, socializing or even leaving the house. I knew this wasn’t me and things would get better in time. This song gave me hope and reassured me that this feeling was only temporary. No matter the circumstance or situation, things will always get better. That message helped me a lot so I wanted to share it with the rest of the world.
What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
I am always writing and working on new music no matter what. Right now I’m planning on releasing some singles in the next few months and hopefully another project in 2021. No set dates yet.
What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
It’s okay to feel low, to fall in love, to be heart broken, to experience pain, all the highs and lows in life. It’s apart of your journey and will ultimately help you grow as an individual. Although it sucks in the moment you need to always remember it will get better. Hopefully my music comforts, inspires or even makes you feel less alone.
