Meet Rapidly Rising Artist Whitney McClain

Whitney McClain is fast emerging as an important voice in music with her honest and heartfelt stories that are pure and uncut. Her voice doesn’t remind me of anyone but her timbre and intonation have the power of many greats who came before her. A new find for me, this Salem, Oregon native whose rapidly shaping into a superstar talent had me doing something I almost never do…hitting the repeat button. Her latest project Letters From A Broken Heart is an adventure that finds McClain going through the cycles of finding and losing love yet coming out on the other side, wiser and stronger.

From the outside looking in who is the artist Whitney McClain?

Whitney McClain is pure. Whitney McClain is raw. Whitney McClain is transparent. Defining myself as others would see me is tough. But I’d like to think people would see me as someone they can relate to; whether it’s me being vulnerable, passionate, happy, or sad, I’d like to be seen as someone people can connect with.

Was there a defining moment when you decided the music business was your calling?

Ever since I was young, I’ve had a passion and love for singing and music. But the defining moment was when I felt like I had a divine encounter with God telling me I need to pursue music. During my college years, I prayed a lot about my path in life and what my purpose was. One day while praying, I was convicted to reach out to my family and tell this was the path I needed to take.

What have been some of the challenges you have overcome to breakthrough as an artist?

The ability to make and release music is so simple. This is a good thing and a bad thing; it’s great because you can put out music anytime you want to for the world to hear. On the other hand, a lot of times it’s tough to be heard because the music industry is so saturated with artists putting out new music. One of the biggest challenges to overcome is getting through the noise. I’ve done my best to overcome this by doing everything I can to remain authentic. I truly feel like God is in control and opened up the doors for me.

Early on, you suffered several near-death experiences because of brain tumors, how has this motivated you to keep pushing?!

I feel like there is a reason why I’m still here. Having faith that God kept me here motivates me to keep on fighting for what I feel I’m called to do.

What is most exciting for you on your journey as an artist?

I like sharing my story and I like sharing my music. I get the most joy out of my career when I get the opportunity to connect with my audience. Whether it’s performing, doing interviews, or even creating a music video and sharing it on social media, it’s most exciting for me when I have the chance to affect others in a positive way.

Tell us about your new project and what it means for you!

My newest project is called “Letters From A Broken Heart”. It’s a project I put a lot into that tells my story of finding love, losing love, and recovering to become a stronger person. I don’t know what this project means for me, but I hope it is therapeutic for my listeners.

What’s next for you as we close out 2020?

Not sure. 2020 has been a whirlwind of a year so far. I’m taking it one day at a time and I’m continuing to work on music. Hopefully more great opportunities for me to share my passion are to come.

Here’s one of the joints that had me pushing repeat, pretty inspiring…
