StillSahr- From Refugee To Rapper

One article after another, I grow more passionate about learning the background of artists. Instead of looking at an artist at face value, I find it extremely important to see what is beneath the surface. What makes an artist’s wheels turn? What is the story behind the song? What made the artist fall in love with music in the first place? While I have a deeply embedded love for music, I also have an extreme respect and curiosity pertaining to the journey of the creator. As many seek to find out the latest gossip on celebrities, I seek to find inspiration and knowledge from their experiences. There is one artist’s story that has lured me in due to the adversities he has faced in life. Yet, he is standing strong while pursuing his passion for music. We have all experienced obstacles in life. However, StillSahr’s journey has been quite different from other’s in which I have come across.
Hearing the term, “Born into the struggle”, hits home for an individual like StillSahr. Being born on the floor of a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled the Civil War in Sierra Lione, StillSahr was a diamond in the rough. Relocating from Ghana to Tasmania and again to South Australia, Sahr became acclimated to life’s rapid transitions. It was during these difficult and trying times, that he learned the fundamentals of survival and strong family values. Throughout the duration of his first five years of life, Sahr endured a lot of change, struggle, and fear. It was these factors that contributed to his attraction to music. It was during his teen years that Sahr began his transformation into a music artist. Listening to artists who inspired him assisted him in obtaining the confidence necessary to take the appropriate steps to progress. Major artists such as, Tupac, J Cole, Drake, and GiiFazo, were lyricists whom set the bar for StillSahr. He developed his own unique flow, ensuring that he stayed true to himself. His sound attracted many of his generation due to his ability to relate to younger demographics. He utilized the resources that were available and accomplished his goal.
In approximately one year after going public as a music artist, StillSahr reached thousands of people with his music. Sahr’s goal is to put Adelaide, Australia on the map regarding musical talent. He frequently refers back to a quote from his father, “Don’t watch others. Let others watch you.” With this key phrase in mind, StillSahr continues to pave his own path in hopes to inspire others. Surrounded by a team who is devoted to him and his goals, StillSahr will stop at nothing to ensure his dreams become a reality.
