Who Is Yung Quis?

The self-made success of Detroit rapper Yung Quis is a 20-year story of unexaggerated triumph and trepidation. These tales live in his music and he wants his fans to appreciate the honesty. “They will never hear something in a song that’s not true unless it’s a punchline,” he says. “They’ll never hear something from me that’s not the truth. Everybody says they’re real. I’m just honest.”

A product of the infamous drug and crime saturated Dexter neighborhood, the Hustle Muzik Entertainment artist is no longer interested in the dangerous trappings of street life in his ‘hood. He has moved on. Quis explains this clearly on “RAP” featuring Jeezy, the 3rd single off his 2021 album K.O.D. (King of Detroit). He rhymes, “I don’t wanna sell dope no more, I swear this rap s**t knocking at my front door; finally realized that I can’t do both”.

From the outside looking in who is Yung Quis?

A Father before anything….  a hustler, and a Rapper.

Was there a defining moment that brought you to the music business on a professional level?

I wouldn’t say a “defining moment” necessarily, I’ve always wanted to do music on a professional level & wanted everyone to take my music as seriously as I did and recognize the hard work & time I’ve put into it.

Where would you be without music?

I feel I would be depressed honestly….  my music is the only form of venting that I have and one of the only few things that genuinely makes me happy.

You’ve distinguished your style of music as being honest rather than use the tag of real…why is that?

Because being real is an OPINION or a VIEW that a person might have, but honesty is a FACT!  Factual music is the core of rap.

What do you want listeners to get from your music?

I just want them to enjoy it….  I just simply want to show & prove I’m the best at what I do

How did your upbringing help define your musical style?

It kept me humbled in the times it mattered the most.  I rap about a SUCCESS STORY versus BRAGGING.  Big difference.

You’ve had the chance to work with some heavy hitters what has that meant for your development as an artist?

It helped me understand the actual music BUSINESS a lot better and realize the flaws that were made throughout my career

Tell us about your upcoming project and what we can expect

This is the best body of work I’ve ever put together in my opinion, I pray that the world embraces it as much as I am.

Do you have a favorite joint from the new project?

I would say “Ready To Live” is my favorite.  It’s a spin from Biggie’s Ready To Die.  It’s the growth of me realizing that there’s more to live for than myself and I had to stop blaming my past for my present!

What’s the most fun for you about making music?

Getting the listener’s response is the best thing for me I’ll say.

What was the biggest surprise about the business side of the music business for you?

Learning that all business is not good business.  It’s best to go into every business endeavor WITHOUT TRUST until it’s earned….  or learn the HARD WAY as I’ve done on many occasions.

What is the most important thing we should know about Yung Quis?

That I’m not here to do anything other than be the BEST RAPPER ALIVE!  I’m coming into the rap game with money cars houses jewelry and all that nonsense already….  at this point I just want the RESPECT!  Nothing more.

Where can we find you online?

Instagram: @CEOYungQuis

And for music and music videos you can search my name (Yung Quis) on any platform that distributes music

What’s been your craziest WTF moment thus far in your career?

I’ll have to say meeting Jeezy.  I’ve met a lot of people I’m a fan of and have worked with a lot of them.  But Snow was different….  this was a person who’s legacy in my city is equivalent to Martin Luther King (with all due respect).  I can’t quote NONE of the “I HAVE A DREAM” speech, but if you put in ANY Jeezy album I’ll know it word for word lol.  He’s one of the most humble people I’ve ever met.
