0Comedian Mark DeBonis On His Latest Album “Minutiae,” His “My First Trek” Podcast, His New Show For Bell Fibe, Bowling & More
Although only in his mid-30s, comedian Mark DeBonis has well over a decade of performing stand-up comedy at a high level. Early into his career, he was the 2011 Great Canadian Laugh Off Winner, a 2010 Canadian Comedy Award Winner, a 2009 Tim Sims Award nominee and a finalist on XM Radio’s Canada’s Next Top Comic. DeBonis made his acting debut in 2012 when he was in the award-winning movie Picture Day, and has since then been seen and/or heard on CBC’s Accent On Toronto and The Debaters, Much Music and the Comedy Network, to name just a few of his broadcast credits.
Late last year Mark DeBonis released his latest comedy album Minutiae via Comedy Records. He has also kept busy during the COVID-19 hosting the My First Trek podcast — in which he watched every episode of Star Trek for the first time and reviews it — and the new Bell Fibe series Next Stage. In other words, DeBonis is not just a comedian, but rather a steadily-working performer in a variety of media.
On February 27, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Mark DeBonis via Zoom, as embedded below. We not only discussed his current projects, but also his journey as a comic and how his early success ultimately did not define him long-term. An inspiring and educational conversation with a great comedic mind. More on DeBonis is online at www.markdebonis.com, www.instagram.com/markdebonis and www.twitter.com/themarkdebonis.
