Exclusive: Hurricane Bells Unveils “Hurricane” Music Video By Bill Moldt, Steve Schiltz Comments

Within a few years of forming in 1999, the quartet known as Longwave had a big record deal with RCA Records. Touring was done alongside The Strokes, The Vines and OK Go, music videos were made for singles like “Wake Me When It’s Over,” “Everywhere You Turn,” and “Tidal Wave.” The group went on hiatus not too long after touring in support of 2008’s Peter Katis-produced Secrets Are Sinister, yet none of the “classic lineup” members of Longwave would give up music for the long-term.

Longwave frontman Steve Schiltz went on to found the band Hurricane Bells, which toured all over the world and landed a song on the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack. Amidst all over that touring, Hurricane Bells made a music video for the song “Hurricane,” which is finally seeing the light of day in 2021. It will premiere On February 18, 2021 and Schiltz will be doing a live Instagram chat on 2/18/21 at 9:00 PM EST along with director Bill Moldt. Commented Schiltz to The Hype Magazine via e-mail:

“The video for the song “Hurricane” was shot on tour in Japan by Bill Moldt. Hurricane Bells had gone over to play 2 shows and at this point I’d been to Japan maybe… 8 or 9 times? And I asked Bill if he wouldn’t mind coming along. Bill, however, had never been and it was a joy to wake him up early to go to the fish market for sushi, or take him to Kiddy Land for odd toys. The shows were great, and I think you can see how much fun everyone is having in the video. Touring in Japan! A total dream come true.”

The embed of the newly-released “Hurricane” video is below. As per what else is coming up for Schiltz within the musical realm, he told the following to The Hype Magazine:

“There is 1 more Hurricane Bells release that will be coming out, an entirely instrumental record. Hurricane Bells was only REALLY active for a few years but there was a lot of music made, and it’s stuff that I love. So that’s coming soon. There’s also always Blue October and Longwave stuff churning. Blue October is always ongoing remote/distance recording for me, and for Longwave it’s just writing and going through demos right now. We have to be in the same room together to really work. But we’ll get to that when we can!”

Speaking of Longwave, below you will find an embed of a video from Longwave’s recently-released live set from New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and a track co-written by Schiltz for the band Blue October.
