Dylan Playfair On Disney+’s “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers,” “Letterkenny,” Hockey & More
Within the 10-episode The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers season set in present day Minnesota — as now airing on Disney+ — the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan Morrow (played by Brady Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (played by Lauren Graham), set out to build their own team of misfits to challenge the cut-throat, win-at-all-costs culture of youth sports today. With the help of Gordon Bombay (reprised by Emilio Estevez), they rediscover the joys of playing just for love of the game. The series features many up-and-coming actors, including Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham and DJ Watts.
One of the featured actors in the first season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is Dylan Playfair. Playfair first hit my radar as Reilly on the essential Canadian comedy Letterkenny. However, Playfair has been working steadily for nearly a decade, as seen in the Descendants film series, Some Assembly Required and Travelers. Hockey has factored into a fair amount of Playfair’s acting work, and that is no coincidence, as he played Junior A hockey in 2010–11 with the Merritt Centennials.
On March 31, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dylan Playfair via Zoom, as embedded below. We not only spoke about The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, but also Letterkenny, hockey, music and work ethic.
