MTV’s “Fresh Out Live” talks to Anitta about the new music video for her hit single “Girl From Rio”

PLUS: Laura Marano stops by for a poolside performance of “Honest With You”

Today on MTV’s Fresh Out Live, host Jamila Mustafa chats with the Brazilian pop superstar Anitta about the inspiration behind her playful and nostalgic new music video “Girl From Rio,” why she chose to record the song in English, and how both the song and music video represent her background, her community and the history of Rio. Plus, Laura Marano drops in for a sunny, poolside performance of “Honest With You.”

On choosing to make “Girl from Rio” her first song fully sung in English:

Anitta: “I’m obsessed with my country and my city, so this song was more about introducing my reality to people. People here (in the US), they like my work, they like what I do, and they don’t get to know Brazil or Rio de Janeiro that well, and with this track the intention was to kind of make this connection with people.”

On bringing people into her reality in the new music video:

Anitta: “The first pin-up style was more inspired by the 50’s… with the sample “Girl from Ipanema” that we took to use on this track, we had this idea of representing the famous, fancy and glamorous Rio de Janeiro from the 50’s. But then, that’s not my reality, you know? So we kinda mixed it with the Rio that I come from which is urban, full of community, energy, people together, so we did this mix.”
