Single/Video Review: The Immediate Family “3:45 Comin’ Through”

One of the most triumphant musical creations to be released this year thus far is the EP “You Can’t Stop Progress” by supergroup The Immediate Family via Quarto Records. On Friday May 14, 2021 the faction is releasing the single and video “3:45 Comin’ Through”, an energetic fusion of funk, soul and rock cool enough to be capable of rearranging one’s circadian rhythm‘s and spirited enough to create an uprising of the collective effervescence.

A band of substance, The Immediate Family is composed of long time music companions Danny Kortchmar on guitar and vocals, Waddy Wachtel on guitars and vocals, Russ Kunkel on the drums, Steve Postell on guitars and vocals and bass Messiah Leland Sklar. The Immediate Family was spawned from The Section who were recognized and respected for their studio and stage work for some of the best-known song writers and solo artists of our time including James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby and Nash, and an endless amount of others. Sometimes new beginnings happen not all at once but at last.

Waddy Wachtel has played on albums and toured with artists including Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Steve Perry, Linda Ronstadt, the Everly Brothers and others. His production credits include albums by Keith Richards, Jackson Browne Bryan Ferry George Thorogood and Warren Zevon.

Danny Kortchmar began his career in New York City with bands such as The King Bees and The Flying Machine which included the then unknown James Taylor. He later joined Carole King in forming a trio named The City. He also wrote music for the Cheech & Chong film “Up in Smoke” and has produced records with Neil Young, Bon Jovi Tracy Chapman and many others.

Russ Kunkel has worked as a session musician with artists including Jackson Browne, Jimmy Buffett, Harry Chapin, Rita Coolidge, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Dan Fogelberg and limitless others. He is known for his expressive, lyrical drumming style. As a producer he has a reputation for musical creativity and artistic sensitivity.

Steve Postell career encompasses his days of playing with Pure Prairie League to performing on Broadway in shows including “Evita” and “The Man From LaMancha.” He also cowrote the score for the off Broadway rock musical “Fallen Angel.” He is also known for writing scores for film and television including ESPN Sports Week.

Leland Sklar is considered by many to be the Messiah of all bassists. He can be heard in over 26,000 records by artists including Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Air Supply, Bee Gees, Kim Carnes, David Cassidy Joe Cocker, Leonard Cohen, Rita Coolidge, Neil Diamond, Toto, The Doors, Randy Edelman, and nearly every muscian on the planet.

Born into our hands is the salaciously, funky video and single “3:45 Comin’ Through”, a rhythmic victory lending its sparkle and radiance to our everyday lives. The song has an edgy twist with lyrics aligned like a rope to cling to. The music is tight but yet the instrumental persona of each individual superstar shines through and dazzles the senses. The video is fun and filled with character.

5/5 Stars
