0A Look At The 2021 Tribeca Film Festival Premiere Of “As Of Yet” With Its Star, Directors & Producer
As Of Yet is told entirely through video calls and digital diaries as Naomi (played by Taylor Garron who also wrote and co-directed the film) navigates a problematic roommate and a burgeoning romance all while locked down during the Coronavirus pandemic. Naomi’s roommate escaped to Florida with her family, leaving Naomi all alone, and they have been struggling to communicate, especially since the start of the pandemic. Meanwhile, she has also been connecting with a gentleman online and she thinks it might be time to meet up, even if that means breaking quarantine against her better judgment. And of course not everyone in Naomi’s world is happy with this plan.
Garron and her co-director Chanel James radiate with creativity in these most trying times, making use of every available resource to safely persevere in the completion of their wildly independent narrative. Garron herself shines in As Of Yet, a smartly-paced comedic portrait of a young single woman navigating through a very-troubling 2020. As Of Yet is Garron’s first feature film as a writer, and her second project alongside co-director Chanel James; Garron starred in James’ feature The Things We Do When We’re Alone, while her credits also include serving as Editor for The Onion.
As Of Yet was world-premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival on June 11, 2021 at the Hudson Yards Public Square and Gardens. That same day, Garron, James and producer Mark Duplass participated in a Zoom-based call with media representatives. Below are highlights from my Q&A with the film’s star, directors and lead producer. More on As Of Yet can be found here, here, here and here.
