Dr. Cat Discusses Why Body Contouring is More Than a Trend in Men

Gone are the days where beauty and self-care were confined to women and their preferences. With the growing trends in competitive social fitment, there has been a contribution from both genders. The increasing numbers of male body contouring seekers have led to multiple studies seeking to present the possible reasons behind the trend. Dr. Cat, an established Plastic Surgeon from Beverly Hills, USA, discusses why body contouring has become more than a trend in men and the mindset coupled with the process.

Contrary to traditional, popular beliefs, body contouring is now being explored by a larger male population. Dr. Cat attributes this unexpected increase to the growing pressure on men to be appealing. “There is an invisible burden of society that forces men to look attractive in order to find their sweet spot!” shared Dr. Cat.

Dr. Cat highlights various aspects of this transformation for a mere trend to now become a driving factor in most men’s lives.

Looksmaxing- Growing Need for Improvement

The most common and influential reason behind more men opting for body contouring is their spiking need and enhancing their appearance. Dr. Cat states looksmaxing to be an intensely considered phenomenon amongst young adults. She shares, “Facial appearance has come to overpower the physical attractiveness in people, which has led men to think about procedures and pursue surgeries.”

Dr. Cat discusses the inclusion of various steps involved in effective looksmaxing. Terming it to be a “life-long process,” Dr. Cat shares its enveloping effect starting from regular skincare routines to the significant plastic and reconstructive treatments. Men are also seen to put effort into the upkeep of these enhancements.

The Social Media World

Gen Z’s have found a new world for their interactive outreach- social media. Deceptive as it already is, social channels have also contributed to the increasing pressure of becoming better, as per Dr. Cat. “Social media has been instrumental in turning your self-love into selfie love!” added Dr. Cat.

She asserts that the substantial and compelling influence of the ‘gram has a significant role in setting up unrealistic beauty standards. “They might ask you to restructure their entire face because of the aesthetic picture they found on Instagram. Such is the impact of these social channels,” she says.

Self- Cautiousness

According to Dr. Cat, these forceful beauty demands have also given way to severe disorders for specific individuals. These men feel inadequate with their bodies which compels them to opt for surgeries and treatments. “Being skeptical about their looks drags them to the surgery rooms.”, Dr. Cat.

The external deceptiveness has caused significant changes to take place internally. Bigorexia, a dysmorphic disorder, has been found in many young adults that has led them to fall into the trap of not feeling “enough.” Studies have revealed that one in 10 men found in the UK gyms could be suffering from this muscle dysmorphia. According to Dr. Cat, this increasing pressure on men to look bulky and muscular has, in severe cases, led to anxiety and depression.
