Nana Mensah On Her New Film “Queen Of Glory,” Future Projects, New York, Pizza, Music & More

Nana Mensah is a Ghanaian-American actress, writer and director. Her latest film — which she wrote, directed and starred in — is Queen Of Glory, which will be world-premiered on June 15, 2021 at Pier 76 in Hudson River Park as part of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival; worldwide sales rights for the film, including U.S. sales, are being handled by Magnolia Pictures International. This summer, Mensah will be seen in Netflix’s eagerly awaited dramedy The Chair, playing the role of Linda alongside with Sandra Oh and Jay Duplass. She was recently seen in Judd Apatow’s King Of Staten Island, as starring Pete Davidson, and can also been seen in the forthcoming season of the Netflix comedy BONDiNG; Mensah has also written for BONDiNG. And that is far from everything Mensah has premiering soon.

The aforementioned Queen Of Glory is the story of Sarah Obeng, the brilliant child of Ghanaian immigrants, who is quitting her Ivy League PhD program to follow her married lover to Ohio. When her mother dies suddenly, she bequeaths her daughter a Christian bookstore in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx where Obeng was raised. A follow-up on the classic immigrant’s tale, Queen Of Glory provokes laughter and empathy, as its heroine is reborn through her inheritance.

On June 8, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Nana Mensah via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Queen Of Glory, we spoke about The Chair, future projects, New York, music and having a multi-faceted career. More on Mensah and Queen Of Glory can be found here, here, here and here.
