0Daniel Baldwin On Screening His Film “My Promise To PJ” At The Long Beach International Film Festival, Long Island & More
An international film festival founded in 2012, the Long Beach International Film Festival will be presenting its 9th edition later this month. Based around the Long Beach area within Nassau County, the LBIFF has a lot more to offer than great independent movies. The festival has brought together top independent filmmakers, chefs, musicians, charitable events and local business-owners over the years, pairing such with celebrities and world-premiere film screenings. This year’s LBIFF will screen an international slate of over 40 films, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short and animated selections which will compete for a series of criteria-based Jury Awards.
One of the films screening at this year’s LBIFF is My Promise To PJ. Prior to the filming of this documentary, a young man named PJ Raynor was promised that if he stayed sober for 2 years from heroin he would be taken to run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. While he accomplished this sobriety milestone, Raynor ultimately relapsed and died. Award-winning actor Daniel Baldwin — who directed the film — then took his ashes and ran with the bulls fulfilling this promise. Baldwin’s film will be screening on July 30, 2021 at 8:30 PM, beachfront at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach, New York.
Interestingly, My Promise To PJ is not the first Daniel Baldwin-directed film to be screened at the LBIFF. Considered an “LBIFF 2014 Alumni Filmmaker,” Baldwin won festival honors for his film The Wisdom To Know The Difference, which also took home honors from other U.S. film festivals. Commented Baldwin in a prepared statement about My Promise To PJ: “My hope is that this film will give a voice to those left behind. That watching this film may save a life and give recognition to the power of faith.”
On July 22, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Daniel Baldwin via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond My Promise To PJ, we discussed future projects he has coming up, his Long Island roots, his history with Long Beach, and the importance of family in his everyday life.
