Who Is Elite Event Promoter Greg “Moneyman” Jones?!

Greg “Moneyman” Jones is an entertainment curator, who produces successful events in the Charlotte and Atlanta area involving high end celebrities. As someone in the industry who is adept at producing events and essentially serving as a liaison between the “Artist” and the respective venue, it’s an amazing opportunity to have a conversation  that takes us behind the scenes of being a successful event promoter.

Greg has curated events involving Jayda Wayda, Rich Homie Quan, Juelz Santana, 50 cent, Jadakiss, Trina, Yung Bleu, AriTheDon, Boosie, just to name a few.

To get a better understanding of what it takes to make it in his part of the industry, what makes him different and how he was able to survive COVID as a business person, I got Greg to weigh in on a few things below…

From the outside looking in, who is Greg “Moneyman” Jones?

A cool, talented guy from a small city who doesn’t take no for an answer! I’m very determined to meet the goals that I have set in place and not afraid to admit that I’m a hustler at heart. Get it done by any means necessary

What was the defining moment that brought you to the entertainment industry?

Seeing the different connections and relationships I could develop whether that was from the artist or various people I had the chance of meeting. Of course, money is a motivation as well, so when I witnessed the type of lifestyle, I could provide for myself and my family, I developed a blueprint and hit the ground running.

How did you decide that being an event promoter was your calling?

My first event was at a spot called “pop a top”. It was honestly an event that was put together with a college roommate. Honestly didn’t know what to expect, but once I saw what I was capable of, it was game time moving forward.

There are many misconceptions of what an event/club promoter is all about, how do YOU see the profession?

Being an event and club promoter is all in what you make it. Once you develop a system that works for you and build valuable relationships with certain venues and others in the industry, your work begins to speak for itself. I see what we do as something that plays a big role in the entertainment industry. Without us, a lot of influencers wouldn’t have a means to make money. So, we absolutely play a huge part in this industry.

What are the main responsibilities and goals of a promoter?

Being consistent and giving the people what they want as far as entertainment is what we do. You must have creativity and the ability to decipher what the people want. Of course, choosing venues that have a great reputation and are safe for both the people and the artists. I don’t think people understand the importance of that.

Tell us about some of your highlights from your career?

Curating events for the CIAA was probably one of the biggest highlights of my career. Also being invited to a radio station in charlotte was super dope for me as well.

What’s the most satisfying thing about what you do?

Being my own boss, traveling the world and meeting some of the dopest artists in the industry.

You promote in multiple markets, what are the differences in the entertainment culture in the cities you work?

The money, the vibe, and the people. I noticed that a lot of event goers in North Carolina come out late and usually have a lot to say about the event and how it’s ran or even pricing. Florida and Atlanta are always ready to have a good time and party. They are out there early and ready to spend money. $50 isn’t nothing in bigger markets.

How do you handle a high-profile event versus a local event?

High profile events I try to make it seem larger than life by just the promo, talent, and the details I choose to investment in. Local events l give the same energy but you won’t see or hear on the radio station.

Consumers see the end result of your work but what REALLY goes on behind the scenes?

The stress, the headache, the what-ifs also come in effect behind the scenes. People just because think you make a flyer, put it out and bring the artist, it’s bout 40 other major things you must do also that people don’t understand it sounds easy but the stuff to prep isn’t.

How do you feel you have impacted the markets you work?

I feel like I changed direction in North Carolina for sure. South Carolina, I did a few events here and there. Atlanta I’m doing more and more but my market is North Carolina. I changed the whole party world. All these new guys that call themselves promoters or host I’m their role model. Any promoter doing events in my market from 2017 until now look up to me.

As an entrepreneur, you give people an opportunity to feed their families and grow professionally, how does that feel for you?

It feels great knowing you giving blessings to others and the smile and outcome people get for what you did for them.

What’s the most important thing we should know about you?

I think outside the box, and I’m not scared to jump out there with an event somebody wouldn’t think about. My skill set and mind frame is better than most.

What’s on the slate for you now that live performances have come back?

The masses of people that come out to events are crazy rain or shine my events been wall to wall since covid let up.

How did you manage your business while the industry was shut down?

Man, it was hard. I had to get back focused and go outside my area and do events where places were open like Atlanta

What is the key thing that makes you want to book an artist?

The fans an artist gains from a hit song or mixtape. When booking an artist, you have to look at the overall vibe that particular artist is going to bring.

How do artists reach out to you?

Social media and email, unless they catch me in person at an event.

Where can we find you online?

All my social media is the same: @gregmoneymanjones
