Tyler Ransom On His New Album “Ends Well,” Being The Subject Of A Documentary & Future Plans

Tyler Ransom is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist with a steep background in jazz, blues and rock. His latest album is 2021’s Ends Well, which was a followup to the 2020 EP Crash & Burn. Ransom also happens to be an author — co-authoring Chronically Positive: My Son’s 5 Step System To Staying Positive with his father Marlon — and the subject of a documentary. All before the age of 21.

I first learned about Tyler Ransom through a mutual friend of ours, Diamond Dallas Page. My curiosity about Ransom’s journey led to us doing Q&A for The Hype Magazine, as embedded below. More on Ransom, Ends Well and the In The Shed documentary can be found by clicking here, here and here.

I understand that your father is a big fan of Rod Stewart, but where did your appreciation of music first come from? Who inspired you to pick up a guitar in the first place?

Tyler Ransom: Music came at a strange time for me, it was when I was in middle school and playing in my school’s jazz band when the wheel started turning. Playing saxophone and having the ability to express myself sonically was an incredible feeling, and that’s when I really began to appreciate it. In 7th grade I was known for always growing out my hair, and one day a friend of mine called me Jimi Hendrix and I was confused. When I got home I searched him up and came across a video of him playing an insane guitar solo and the rest is history.

You released an album earlier this year. How long did you spend writing and recording it?

Tyler Ransom: I released my album Ends Well in early March of this year and that was quite the experience. I wrote and recorded it all last year during quarantine and in my bedroom, which was a pretty harsh time for everyone. With so much time on my hands I really wanted to push my artistic limit and create something that would be bigger than me. I like to think I achieved some of that, and it’s still a goal I always try to accomplish before I embark on a project.

Do you have a favorite song on the album?

Tyler Ransom: All the songs on the album mean a lot to me, as in a way they are each a time capsule of memories and how I felt at the time. It’s always shifting but as of late my song “Forget To Feel” has been on rotation for me.

A lot of people first learned about you from a documentary made about your life. How does it feel to know that so many people saw so much early video footage of you?

Tyler Ransom: To this day it’s a very strange feeling. Watching your life on screen really makes you feel a specific type of way that I can’t really put into words. In a way it makes me feel even more connected with everyone who has seen the documentary because that means they really saw me for me. I’m really grateful and honored that I was able to make an impact on others and help promote a positive lifestyle.

People haven’t to get to know you through your documentary and your music, but is there anything you wish more people knew about it?

Tyler Ransom: Not really, I am really happy with the knowledge that people have learned about me, as the end game for everything is to make a positive impact. I am super-grateful for everyone that takes the time out of their day to watch or listen to the things I create. It means a whole lot and I’m happy!

What’s next for you? Do you have plans to make another album or EP in the near-future?

Tyler Ransom: I’m currently in New York right now for school, and there are a number of things I have planned that I am excited to share. A lot of music of course, but I also don’t want to put myself in a box. Expect music and a little more soon.

Finally, Tyler, any last words for the kids?

Tyler Ransom: I’m really honored to be where I am today and I’m grateful to have a supportive family. I want kids to know that theres quite literally no harm in trying. Sending love!
