Disc Jockey Legacy Si’mone ‘DJ Monie’ Lewis Advocates for Black Female DJ’s With Launch of Melanated Deejays Coalition

Branding industry vet and emerging women’s empowerment Disc Jockey Si’mone ‘DJ Monie’ Lewis proudly announces the launch of the Melanated Deejays Coalition, a private members-only DJ Coalition for female DJs of color, that strives to provide guidance for aspiring deejays and brand management for existing mixologists.

The organization offers its members ongoing exposure, management, and mentorship opportunities, as well as branding and event management and curation support.

Candidates interested in joining the coalition must strive to meet the Melanated Deejays’ standard of professional excellence. All potential members are individually screened before they are accepted into the program and are offered representation. DJanes of all levels of expertise and influence are welcome to participate in the Melanated Deejays community whether it’s a total newbie or turntable legend who can give back to the up and coming.

“I am a self-taught DJ, I was looking for other women in the game who looked like me and there wasn’t a centralized place to go. I was in search of a mentor, that I have yet to find – so I decided to create a safe and resourceful space for melanated newcomers and the OG’s to come together and create a community where we can work together to create something magical,” explains DJ Monie on the origin of Melanated Deejays.

She adds, “Music is so deeply ingrained in my life but also larger Black and ethnic cultures. I built the Melanated Deejays Coalition because it’s critical that Black women have a fair chance in claiming their stake in that and influencing the future of events, this industry, and more.”

The granddaughter of the late great Southern radio legend Thomas “TJ” Hughes, one of the first black disc jockeys in the Southeast, DJ Monie literally has music running through her blood. With a family tree that includes artists like Dewey Hughes and Tori Brixx, DJ Monie mastered her skills on the brand development side while serving corporate giants and leading entrepreneurs for many years before taking to the turntables. She and her consulting team have worked on creative projects for Kash Doll, Trae the Truth, and Elijah Blake just to name a few.

The charismatic fast-learning DJ has taken her talents to Vegas where her feminist forward colorful knack for lush, luxurious, and sexy costumes has earned the nickname the “The Risqué DJ”. Her open format, multi-genre style makes her ideal sound savant for any celebration from nuptials, dinner parties, entertaining, after-hour party-seekers, or even corporate crews!
