Broken Top Brands x Carnie Wilson’s Love Lites

Attention: Wilson Phillips fans. Singer Carnie Wilson’s Love Lites collaboration with Broken Top Brands features Lemon Cookie, Sea Salt Cream, Vanilla Almond and Sparkling Mimosa scents and are made to last up to 75 hours with dual wick burning. Therefore, it is easy to enjoy these sweet scent in your home long after the comparable sweet treats are gone.

My mission is to bring warmth and love into your home through the smells that hold those special memories for me. Won’t you enjoy a special moment with me?”

Sepultura’s Sepulnation Box Set

Despite being arguably Brazil’s biggest ever music export, when extreme metal legends Sepultura lost their original frontman and founder Max Cavalera — alongside brother and drummer Igor Cavalera — in 1996, after their hugely influential Roots album, many thought the band would not recover from his departure. However, in Cleveland, Ohio punk and hardcore scene veteran Derrick Green, Sepultura found a formidable, towering force that would lead the band with power and conviction through this new era of their career.

Sepulnation – The Studio Albums 1998 – 2009, as released through BMG in October 2021, celebrates the band’s second phase. This 5-album boxset, as set across 8 slabs of vinyl or 5 CDs, contains the albums Against, Nation, Roorback, Dante XXI and A-Lex, all of which are half-speed-cut, remastered and back on 180-gram vinyl for the first time in a decade and also as a collector’s CD box. The aforementioned Roorback album features the rare Revolusongs EP, which is available for the first time digitally.

Mabel’s Labels

Mabel’s Labels personalized labels are durable, water-proof and safe to use within a microwave, dishwasher and/or laundry machine. These customizable labels give everyday people peace of mind knowing that their gear is properly-labeled and easy to identify. You better believe that I have some “Paltrowitz” labels around the home here, which I plan on using for this year’s holiday cards and some general kitchen organization.

Sfoglini Pasta

The initial idea for creating a new pasta shape came from Sporkful creator and host Dan Pashman, who podcast listeners follow for his passionate and idiosyncratic approach to food. With no professional training as a chef, Pashman created The Sporkful “for eaters, not for foodies,” a tagline that directly informs the podcast’s unpretentious take on food culture. Since launching over a decade ago as one of the first food podcasts, The Sporkful has received numerous accolades including a James Beard Award, Webby Award, and Saveur Award for Best Food Podcast, and continues to be one of the most popular food podcasts today. Notable guests over the years have included Rachel Maddow, David Chang, Samin Nosrat, Nigella Lawson, Alton Brown, Carla Hall, Rosie Perez, Jim Gaffigan, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Kwame Onwuachi and W. Kamau Bell.

Last March, The Sporkful aired its new five-episode “Mission: ImPASTABLE” series, which chronicles Pashman’s quest to invent a new pasta shape, actually get it made, and actually sell it. Through the series, Pashman takes listeners on a journey that includes a heated debate on pasta shapes with respected food experts Francis Lam (host of APM’s The Splendid Table) and Evan Kleiman (host of KCRW’s Good Food), a trip to The Pasta Lab at North Dakota State University — where there is a machine that measures the bite force required to eat different pastas — and a conversation with the elusive Giovanni Cannata, the only pasta die maker working in America today. Thus, via The Sporkful podcast and beloved American pasta maker Sfoglini, a new pasta shape has been invented. More recently the Cascatelli by Sporkful Gift Set was launched, which incudes an exclusive “Put Some Cascatelli In My Belly” kitchen towel, the Cascatelli Companion Recipe Booklet featuring 12 recipes from Pashman and family, and 4 boxes of Cascatelli by Sporkful.

A Dutch Masterpiece

A Dutch Masterpiece makes award-winning cheese that many call “a work of art.” On November 17, 2021, I had the pleasure of attending a Holiday Masterpiece Cheeseboard Building Class, as presented by A Dutch Masterpiece and led by Jen & Jamey Virtual Cooking Classes. This virtual class was a live, interactive and fun 1-hour event, as led by the aforementioned Jen and Jamey with emphasis on new and innovative ways to create a Holiday Masterpiece Cheeseboard. In turn, one can learn to savor the slightly-rich flavor or Vincent, the full-bodied flavor of Frans Hals, the delicate fruity flavor of Vermeer, and/or the sharp taste and delicious texture of Rembrandt, while also learning the art of crafting their very own Holiday Masterpiece Cheeseboard.

Ultimately, I came away very impressed with both the brand A Dutch Masterpiece’s cheese and the instruction of the Zoom-based session. Per its website, Jen & Jamey’s Virtual Cooking Classes are “on a mission to teach people that creating great cuisine can be fun.” I hope to experience both A Dutch Masterpiece and Jen & Jamey’s Virtual Cooking Classes both again in the near-future.

Butter Hub

Simply put, Butter Hub is a smarter butter dish. This kitchen must-have has 4 features that make it stand out from others on the market. Butter Hub’s magnetic lid (to hold a knife), extended feet (to keep butter mess off the table), scoop ramps and a scrape edge comes in 7 colors to match any kitchen décor. It carries a simple look, and is simultaenously lightweight, dishwasher-safe, microwavable and BPA-free dish. Above all, it will keep your butter soft and ready for spreading.

Last Call board game

Now available via Amazon, Last Call has been described by some fans as “the best new drinking game.” Featuring enough variety to play all night long, its players get to answer ridiculous questions, compete in hilarious challenges and, yes, drink. Just shuffle the cards, go around the room drawing from the top of the deck, and follow the instructions on each card. This adult-oriented party game is super-easy to follow along with, even for the most tipsy of friends, making it ideal parties and group game nights alike.

Detroit Vineyards

Detroit Vineyards is a full-production winery and tasting room, producing wines reflective of the terroir and microclimate of the state – focusing on Vinifera varietals like Blaufrankisch, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Marsanne, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Riesling, along with French and American hybrid varietals that thrive in the region’s variable climate, like Traminette and Vignole. Detroit Vineyards’ wine is made only from Michigan-grown grapes, sourced from family farms and vineyards across the state. They work directly with growers in 3 of Michigan’s 5 American Viticultural Areas (AVA): in southwest Michigan, the Lake Michigan Shore AVA; and in northwest Michigan, the Leelanau Peninsula AVA and Old Mission Peninsula AVA.

Every wine that they sell is produced and bottled in their winery in Eastern Market, Detroit from grapes. Their winemaker spends much of harvest in a truck: checking in on vineyards and freighting fruit back to the winery. They use minimally-interventional winemaking practices with very few additions, minimal sulfur and a very judicious use of oak. Their Detroit Vineyards 2020 Sauvignon Blanc should definitely be on your list, and the vineyard now has a Wine Club Subscription option available.

Driven by a comfort and eco-conscious lifestyle, Cariloha combines the style of the Caribbean with “the spirit of Aloha” to provide top-notch natural luxury. Without giving too much away, this offering includes True North’s Sleigh Bells Blend (think Holiday Dessert in a mug), Caffe Ladro’s Fireside Blend and Dragonfly Coffee’s Celtic Winter Blend. All great stuff.

Wild Interiors

Wild Interiors is a premium foliage brand from Green Circle Growers. The brand offer a lush variety of amazing options for every plant budget and style. The Ohio-based foliage and succulents brand’s website includes an online guide with regard to its breakdown of plant options, even categorizing their plants into some curated collections to seamlessly-integrate into the existing space. Another great feature from Wild Interiors are its pet-friendly plants, which are indicated online with a paw print, so you can be sure the plant you purchase is safe for the entire home.

The majority of Wild Interiors plants are reasonably-sized to accommodate even smaller locations, and can fit a variety of light level options making it perfect for apartments or small living locations. And if you have watched any recent Paltrocast With Darren Paltrowitz interviews on my YouTube channel, well, then you have seen some of Wild Interiors’ greatness.

Paul John Single Malt Whisky Christmas Edition 2021

375 Park Avenue Spirits specializes in the premium to luxury-spirit categories and its portfolio includes numerous expressions from leading international producers. Founded as Luctor International, LLC in 1981, 375 Park Avenue Spirits joined the Sazerac Company in early 2015 to act as an independent, yet fully-integrated sales and marketing affiliate. The company is known today for creating an environment of growth for supplier partners in the domestic market for renown brands like Van Gogh Vodka from Holland, Sobieski Vodka from Poland, Cutty Sark Blended Scotch, J.P. Wiser’s Canadian Whisky, Paul John Single Malt Whisky from India, Scapegrace Gin from New Zealand, and Novo Fogo Cachaca.

The aforementioned Paul John Indian Single Malt Whisky hails from the sunny shores of Goa, India. The unique flavors of these single malts owe much of their character to the heritage variety of its 6-row barley harvested from Himalayas. The U.S. portfolio includes Nirvana, Bold, Brillance, Edited, Mars Orbiter, Kanya, Mithuna, Select Casks and Rarities offerings, as well as an annual limited Christmas Edition. The Paul John Single Malt Whisky Christmas Edition 2021 looks great, tastes great and sure to impress.

Spice Girls’ SPICE 25 Deluxe Edition

After their iconic 1996 debut single “Wannabe” topped the charts in 37 countries, The Spice Girls’ debut album SPICE went on to sell more than 31 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album of all time by a female group. The girls have gone on to sell more than 90 million records around the globe, releasing 3 studio albums and 11 singles and winning a host of awards including a BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

The SPICE 25 2CD set comes in an A5 hardback booklet, with a collection of iconic images plus brand new messages from the girls. The set also includes a set of 6 Spice Girls postcards, featuring photographs by Tim Roney, taken in Paris in September 1996. The album is now available in a number of other formats, including a Zoetrope picture disc and limited-edition colored vinyl and cassettes — containing the audio from the original album only — with each Girl having a specific color that corresponds across both vinyl and cassette editions. The full original album has also been recreated in Dolby Atmos/Apple Spatial Audio. Thus, you have an inexpensive yet ideal collector’s item for any Spice Girls fan, holiday season 2021 and beyond.

Forsake Shoes

Forsake aims to create footwear that is prepared for both “the known and unknown, so your day is never limited by the gear on your feet.” Its Peak-to-Pavement philosophy combines all-weather protection, rugged construction and versatile styling, ultimately delivering footwear that is prepared for whatever adventures await outside your door. Yet my first exposure to the brand was at this year’s Gotham Gets In Gear event in New York City.

Since then, I have had the pleasure of trying out Forsake’s Banks Men’s Shoe. This one is ideal for both day hikes and laid-back city cruises. It keeps your your feet cool and protected, with a moisture-wicking mesh lining and breathable leather, suede and canvas upper in place. Its die-cut EVA midsole and nylon shank support your feet no matter the terrain, and the all-terrain lugged rubber sole stays grippy on slick sidewalks and rugged trails. Mine are in the Orange/Grey coloring scheme, and I cannot recommend these shoes enough.

Ozzy Osbourne’s No More Tears Picture Vinyl

The 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition of No More Tears was first released digitally, adding 12 bonus tracks to the classic album. One of these bonus tracks is a brand new mash-up, as remixed by Rob Kinelski (Billie Eilish), of both Ozzy’s original 1991 song “Hellraiser” and Motorhead’s 1992-released version of “Hellraiser.” The song was originally co-written by Ozzy, Lemmy Kilmister (Motorhead) and Ozzy’s guitarist Zakk Wylde, and fans have been doing their own mash-ups for years. 2 special editions — a 2LP black vinyl version and a special yellow and red 2LP vinyl version with a specially created booklet — were also released simultaneously, as exclusive to the Tower Records website.

In terms of the lasting impact of the No More Tears album, it was a quadruple-platinum-seller which yielded 4 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Rock Tracks chart, “Mama, I’m Coming Home” (#2), “Road To Nowhere” (#3), “Time After Time” (#6) and the title track (#10). In addition, the album’s “I Don’t Want To Change The World” earned Ozzy his first GRAMMY, per a live version of the track that was featured on his 1993 Live & Loud album. The GRAMMY-winning track was 1 of the album’s 4 songs co-written with the aforementioned Lemmy Kilmister, and the album was ranked at #22 on Loudwire’s “Top 90 Hard Rock + Metal Albums of the ’90s” with Ultimate Classic Rock including No More Tears on their list “Top 100 ’90s Rock Albums.”

Speedland’s Sneakers

Another excellent discovery of mine from this year’s Gotham Gets In Gear event in New York City was Speedland. The Speedland SL:PDX Trail Shoe — which carries a retail price of $375.00 — was made in collaboration with BOA. This ultra-premium trail running shoe wasdesigned for the most discerning athlete. The shoe’s upper features the PerformFit Wrap, as powered by the BOA Fit System, providing a dialed in, locked in, confident fit for a superior connection and stability on any terrain.

Reportedly, this is the first trail running shoe to feature Li2, BOA’s premium dial platform designed with multi-directional capabilities. In turn, runners can tighten and loosen to accommodate foot-swelling on longer runs and/or lock in on technical terrain. The SL:PDX also features a removable Carbitex DFX carbon fiber plate with asymmetrical and dynamic flex — stiff in one direction, flexible in the other — providing the perfect balance of responsiveness and energy return. A smart brand making smart products, to say the least.

Poler Outdoor Stuff

And another fantastic new discovery for me via 2021’s Gotham Gets In Gear event in Manhattan is the Poler Outdoor Stuff brand. Whether you are cheering from the stands or the couch or playing pond hockey, NHL fans now have a new way to honor their favorite teams this season, thanks to Poler Stuff. The limited-edition co-branded Cozy Collection was helmed in collaboration with the National Hockey League to showcase fan pride, and its collection features plush and cozy wearables emblazoned with team insignias for the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadians, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks. It is now available exclusively at poler.com.

Meanwhile, the Poler Shaggy Napsack is ideal perfect for summer trips, couch surfing, music festivals, after snowboarding, surfing, and/or just about any other activity that brings your core temp down. Hike it up to your waist, cinch it, wear it like a coat around the campsite, and crawl back into your tent all without ever leaving your cozy, warm Napsack. As an added bonus, it is now made with a super soft shaggy inner lining made of comfy synthetic fur. Ultimately different from Poler’s Zonker Napsack, but just as quality-oriented.

CandaScent Labs

CandaScent Labs is a beauty and wellness brand known to formulate botanically-powered candles, as made with organic essential oils and pure plant extracts. The brand uses cutting-edge science to formulate said candles, which are sophisticated in scent and made with ingredients for your well-being. The brand carefully develops these candles with clan ingredients, as free of any synthetics, to capture the unique olfactory fingerprints of plants and deliver their science-backed benefits.

Recently CandaScent Labs unveiled a “forest bathing candle” called Mojo, and it has received excellent reviews. Per the words of the brand itself: “Find your MOJO as you inhale the aromas of the forest. Full of phytoncides, antioxidants, antibacterials and antifungals, MOJO will get you feeling like you have reached the top of the mountain.” I highly-recommend this one for personal home usage beyond gift-giving.

Joe’s Italian Deli

For over 40 years, Joe’s Italian Deli has been serving some of the neighborhood’s finest imported cheese, Italian meats, oils and vinegars, pastas, and homemade mozzarella known to (local) mankind. The Bronx institution offers a variety of customized, gourmet gift baskets with authentic Italian products including Italian dry sausage, imported cheese, Italian chocolates, figs, Torrone, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pesto, pasta, Taralli, biscotti and more. And these baskets can be easily customized via a phoneo call to 718-367-7979. Pricing options start at $150.00, and more information related to Joe’s offerings can be found at www.joesitaliandeli.com/gift-baskets.

Gift baskets aside, Joe’s Italian Deli is one of the must-visit institutions of Bronx Little Italy. A family-owned business worthy of year-round patronage, it is close to Mike’s Deli, Borgatti’s Ravioli & Egg Noodles, Calabria Pork Store, Marie’s Fresh Roasted Coffee Beans & Gifts and Tino’s Delicatessen alike. In other words, if you are in the area, why not make a day out of dining your way through Bronx Little Italy?

Telestrations

As reportedly taken on tour by Billie Eilish, Telestrations is a fun family-oriented game. Simple to learn how to play, each player simultaneously sketches a word they are given. When the alloted time is up, the players must pass their sketch to the next person to guess. Each player writes their guess on the card and passes it on until the drawing returns to the original player. It does not matter how good your drawing skills are, just draw and let the fun begin. Ideal for casual, family, party and strategy gamers alike, and now priced at a modest $19.99 for sale via Target, Barnes & Noble and The Op site via ShareASale.

Hues And Cues

Remember the “is the dress blue or white” controversy? The fact is, we all see colors differently. What hue do you think of when we say “apple?” Either way, Hues And Cues is a vibrant board game full of colorful communication, where players are challenged to make connections to colors with words. Using only 1 and 2-word cues, players try to get others to guess a specific hue from the 480 colors on the game board. The closer the guesses are to the target, the more points you earn. Since everyone imagines colors differently, connecting colors and clues has never been this much fun before. Now available for sale via Target, Barnes & Noble and The Op site for $24.99.

Blank Slate

Reportedly a game night favorite of Selena Gomez, if you are looking out for something new to introduce to the family, then the Blank Slate Board Game is absolutely worth considering. This fun game comes with 8 slates, markers and 250 double-sided cue cards. The objective is to complete phrases with any word, yet you score points for matching your word with any one other player. The rules are simple to understand and each match lasts only up to 30 minutes, so you know this game is going to be the new favorite with the fam. Simply pick one of 250+ Word Cue cards (with 500 total cues), write the word you think best completes the phrase, and try to match it exactly to another player’s word without giving a single hint. Now available for sale via Target, Barnes & Noble and The Op site for $24.99.

Cutluxe’s Artisan Bread Knife

Cutluxe was reportedly founded on the ambition to design and manufacture “the perfect kitchen knife.” By working directly with professional gourmet chefs, Cutluxe analyzes the finest details with regard to how a great knife performs. Then it aims to design a knife and manufacturing process that delivers exceptional kitchen knives at prices assessable to chefs at all levels. In turn, the end-goal is to deliver knives at consistently high-quality.

Described by many as the “kitchen beast,” Cutluxe is available in 3 different types: Artisan, Olivery and Shinobi. I had the pleasure of trying out the Cutluxe Bread Knife, a 10″ Serrated Edge Knife made with high carbon German steel. Featuring an ergonomic handle design, this Artisan Series offering includes a hand-sharpened edge at 14-16 degrees per side for maximum sharpness and edge retention, ensuring precision slicing and minimal crumb dispersion when cutting bread. Like all Cutluxe products, this one comes with a lifetime warranty against material and workmanship defects, so you can feel comfortable purchasing an item like this “without risk.”

Earth’s Kiss masks

Earth’s Kiss is the maker of a new range of vegan facial masks which fall into the “certified organic skincare” category. Inspired by the emerging revolution billed as “self-care is health care,” Earth’s Kiss products prioritize regeneration, rejuvenation and self-healing from within. These masks — which I have had the pleasure of trying — are 100 percent vegan, eco-ethical and cruelty-free. The rare time I will get excited about mud.

Cravings by Chrissy Teigen

From cookbook author Chrissy Teigen comes Cravings, the online recipe platform and e-commerce site that brings fun, function, and flavor into the kitchen. Founded in 2019, Cravings has rapidly become an all-encompassing home, kitchen and lifestyle brand, offering easy-to-follow, flavor-packed recipe content and a robust e-commerce site of housewares, food products, accessories and plenty more. From spice sets and wok pans, to cozy robes and slippers, Cravings brings together everything people need to feel comfortable and inspired in the kitchen.

Cravings by Chrissy Teigen recently introduced a new collection of kitchenwares to the market, just in time for the holiday entertaining season. Inspired by and named after Teigen’s new cookbook, the All Together kitchenwares collection was said to be designed specifically with entertaining in mind. This includes the Show-Off Charcuterie Board, the Kiss My Peach Pitcher, the Waffle Absorbent All-Purpose Towels, and the Show-Off Glass Serving Dome. Kitchenware that is simultaneously functional, aesthetically-pleasing, economically-priced and, well, cool.

Chariteas

Committed to sourcing the world’s finest quality tea from the road less traveled, Chariteas works with sustainable tea farms in order to craft custom blends. In turn, the company is giving a platform to teas from Southeast Asia, including offerings from Indonesia and Vietnam. Chariteas cares about the environment and with each purchase of tea, they replant trees. Its Happy Tummy Tea from Chariteas is a calming blend with organic mint and ginger to aid in digestion.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire board game from Ginger Fox

In late 1990s, few television shows were more successful here in the States than Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. The show ultimately transitioned from a top-ranked primetime series to a daytime television staple, producing more episodes than almost any show you can think of.

Thanks to Ginger Fox, you can now put yourself in the hot seat of one of the nation’s favorite quiz shows and take on the iconic money ladder via its newly-produced board game edition. Using your wits and up to 4 lifelines, players are tested to “handle the pressure” on their path to earning a (virtual) $1 million grand prize. Suitable for 3 or more players aged 14+, the average game is slotted to take between 30 and 45 minutes. Players seeking a more compact game with fewer cards can also find that edition on Amazon.

Maniac Cop 2 & 3 Deluxe Editions

In Maniac Cop 2, “Maniac Cop” is back from the dead and stalking the streets of New York once more. Officer Matt Cordell was once a hero, but after being framed by corrupt superiors and brutally assaulted in prison, he sets out on a macabre mission of vengeance, teaming up with a vicious serial killer to track down those that wronged him and make them pay — insert dramatic pause — with their lives. The film stars Robert Davi, Claudia Christian, Michael Lerner, Laurene Landon, Leo Rossi, Robert Z’Dar, Charles Napier, and Bruce Campbell. Blue Underground’s stunning restoration of the film was scanned in 4K from the original camera negative, as supervised by Director of Photography James Lemmo, and this deluxe edition includes audio commentary and a plethora of other bonus features.

And fortunately, Maniac Cop 3: Badge Of Silence is also now on the market in deluxe form. It includes returning stars Robert Davi and Robert Z’Dar, plus Paul Gleason, Jackie Earle Haley, Julius Harris, Doug Savant and Robert Forster. Like Maniac Cop 2, this one was scanned in 4K from the original uncensored negative. It is presented with Dolby Vision HDR and a new Dolby Atmos audio mix for this definitive presentation.

“Bring Me Some Tea” Socks from Lavley

These adorable, dress-style socks are super-soft, ultra-comfy, and made to last for years to come. The bottom of the socks read “If You Can Read This, Bring Me Some Tea,” as printed in non-slip ink. The design features tea bags, kettles, lemons, sugar spoons, tea leaves and steaming mugs. Altogether, this one is ideal for surprising tea lovers and aficionados alike, just as it would be for Sunday tea party favors, birthdays, Christmas, graduation and other special occasions. The tea enthusiast in your life will be sure to appreciate them, as now available for purchase via Amazon.

BOGS Footwear’s Chukka Cognac shoes

Last but not least… And as also discovered via this year’s Gotham Gets In Gear event in New York City… BOGS makes boots for kids, women and men alike, aiming to provide comfort and protection from rain, snow, and anything else mother nature may throw at them. Smart, functional and durable yet also fashionable.

Post-event, I had the pleasure of checking out BOGS’ Classic Casual Chukka men’s boots. These Classic Casual Chukka boots are made with 100 percent waterproof gold-certified leather, Rebound Cushioning for all-day comfort, DuraFresh natural bio-tech for odor control, and BLOOM algae-based footbeds that help clean polluted water habitats. Meanwhile, the BOGS Max-Wick helps to evaporates one’s sweat — thus keeping feet dry — and its high abrasion heel overlay aims to deliver better durability. Highly-recommended.
