A Former DJ-Turned-Literary Figure: Christopher Dines’ Debut Historical Novel

“Good writing is remembering detail. Most people want to forget. Don’t forget things that were painful or embarrassing, or silly. Turn them into a story that tells the truth.” – Paula Danziger

The best stories are the ones that inspire others. When authors pour their real feelings into the book, remembering every detail and every emotion, it surely creates magic. Nothing in the world ever compares to the power of words, and writers evoke a sense of feeling in the readers’ hearts. An example of such a writer can be Christoper Dines. The former DJ, remixer, and producer is currently writing his ninth book – a historical novel set in Manhattan, New York, in the mid-to-late 1980s.

The Journey Towards Change

Christopher has always been passionate about music. It was almost as if his love for music was in his blood, ready to burst out any second. He started DJ’ing in 1994. When the author was only fifteen years old, he left his high school to pursue a full-time career as an electronic house DJ. With people appreciating his work and recognizing his talent, Dines became highly confident about himself.

His confidence motivated him to keep moving forward even at a very young age. The DJ’s beats were also featured on London’s underground dance music pirate radio station, 103.6 Flex FM. At the same time, he promoted two British national top-eleven UK garage bands, The Genius Cru and DJ Deekline and MC Hyperactive, in North West London for two years.

Intrigued by the underground electronic dance music, the DJ traded as Chris Lopez and Kris Lopez and started collaborating with various artists, who inspired him greatly throughout his music journey. In the past, Christopher has performed at prestigious venues such as City Loud at Turnmills, Ministry of Sound, Defected In The House at Pacha, London Fashion Week, The Loft (Trouble Anderson’s Loft), and Garage City, where he received appreciation for his music. His DJ’ing career also made him fond of traveling as he explored the Asian countries and fell in love with their culture while remixing and producing underground electronic music.

Every single individual has struggled in this world, and it is their struggles that make them strong. Similarly, Christopher Dines has had his fair share of struggles in life, but he overcame them one after another. Unfortunately, Dines’ thrilling music journey hit rock bottom as his cocaine and alcohol addiction got out of control. Christopher has always been determined, and his determination to change helped him through his drug addiction. In 2004, when he was twenty-one, he decided to change his habits to become the best version of himself.

Soul Searching and Self-Reflection

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” – Aristotle.

Many individuals tend to feel lost as they lose their purpose in life. In order to find peace and solace in life, one must self-reflect and connect to tap into their deepest feelings. As Christopher left the party lifestyle, he invested a lot of time to self-reflect. It was during that time when he also started understanding how the human mind works in different situations. He retired from the dance music industry in 2006.

With intense self-education and guidance from his mentors, Dines explored ways to strengthen the emotional wellbeing of humans. The author has conducted many workshops, seminars, retreats, school talks, and corporate events, helping people regulate their stress and find the ultimate level of peace and comfort in life.

So far, he has published eight books revolving around mindfulness, self-reflection, and serenity. Published by La Petite Fleur Publishing in 2015, his book Mindfulness Burnout Prevention is an 8-Week course. The book teaches individuals to manage workplace stress and ways to prevent burnout. His 2016 book, The Kindness Habit, co-authored by Dr. Barbara Mariposa, was published by Riverbank Books UK. In recent years, he has published Drug Addiction Recovery (Sheldon Press, Hachette, 2019) and Super Self-Care (Sheldon Press, Hachette, 2020) and has written his upcoming historical novel.

The book Drug Addiction Recovery is quite close to the author’s heart, reflecting on his painful journey. The author wrote this book mainly to help recovering addicts work through old wounds, including grief, abandonment, betrayal, and abuse. Christoper is fond of bringing a change into this world. He wants to help others overcome their challenges as he believes that each individual needs proper guidance. That is one reason he has become Ambassador of the Project Eileen, supporting the youth to address the death of a loved one and the feelings of grief.
