Mary J. Blige On “Power Book II: Ghost,” Career Plans & More

Created by Courtney A. Kemp, Power Book II: Ghost is a sequel to the well-renowned Starz series Power. Power Book II: Ghost picks up the narrative just a few days after the Power finale. It follows Tariq St. Patrick navigating his new life, in which his desire to shed his father’s legacy comes up against the mounting pressure to save his family. In September 2020 it was announced that the series was renewed for a second season, which is scheduled to premiere on Starz on November 21, 2021.

Power Book II: Ghost begins its second season with the aforementioned Tariq St. Patrick (played by Michael Rainey Jr.) drifting further from that which he has been fighting to protect: his family. With Tasha (played by Naturi Naughton) in witness protection, Tariq knows he must sacrifice anything to save what is left of his family. Unable to do it alone, he turns to those wielding power and influence: Davis MacLean (played by Method Man) and his new partner Cooper Saxe (played by Shane Johnson), as well as Rashad Tate (played by Larenz Tate). Of course, all of these options come with a steep price.

On November 4, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with various cast members of Power Book II: Ghost via Zoom, as embedded below. Below is my conversation with the very legendary Mary J. Blige, which includes discussion about the show’s second season, also digging into other projects for her. More on Power Book II: Ghost and its stars can be found by clicking here, here and/or here.
