Joe Whiting On Current Musical Projects, Touring With Van Halen, Savoy Brown & Homebrewing

Joe Whiting first came into prominent as a member of the RCA Records-signed band Jukin’ Bone in the 1970s. This would lead him to playing the rock & roll revival circuit with Bobby Comstock, replacing Ronnie James Dio in the band Elf, and touring alongside Van Halen as the frontman of The Joe Whiting Band. In the years since, Whiting has recorded a variety of albums, toured the world as a member of Savoy Brown, been GRAMMY-nominated and gotten nominated into the Syracuse Music Hall Of Fame.
On November 26, 2021, as research for my forthcoming book, I spoke with Joe Whiting via Zoom. The guy wound up giving me a lot of great information, so I figured, “Hey, why not turn this into a standalone feature article?” Whiting continues to keep busy these days not only as a musician, but also as a homebrewer; more on the beer side of things is also embedded below in video form.
