25 Food & Drink Discoveries For December 2021 & Well Beyond

With everything happening in the world, there is still a lot of uncertainty going around. But everyone needs to eat, and there is no shortage of exciting food and drink offerings to order online. If you are searching for new food discoveries, you have come to the right place as I have been monitoring the latest and greatest from online retailers. Here are 25 recommendations available for ordering today.

SeaBear Smokehouse Direct

Washington-based SeaBear has worked with its friends at Seattle’s iconic Salumi / Coro artisan cured meats to bring you the third annual curation of its Ultimate Charcuterie Collection. Filled with small-batch artisan foods from all across Washington State, this collection is ideal for hosting and sharing opportunities. Especially great from SeaBear, per what I had the chance to try recently via online-ordering, are its SeaBear Smoked Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, its SeaBear Smoked Ready To Eat Trout and Coro’s Agrumi Salumi. Top quality, quick shipping.

Caliwater

After 12 years of friendship that formed in California but inclusive of world travels, brand founders Oliver Trevena and Vanessa Hudgens combined their passions and creative visions together for the next phase of Caliwater, a canned cactus water they introduced to the world earlier this year, with expansion products to roll out in 2022. Additional celebrity brand investors/ambassadors include Gerard Butler, Brooke Burke, Ross Butler, Gregg Sulkin, Ruckus and Glen Powell.

Great taste aside, what makes Caliwater unique is its inclusion of Prickly Pear, a “superfood” high in antioxidants, which is believed to naturally lower cholesterol, eliminates hangovers, and help one’s skin look great. While a refreshing drink on its own, it can be paired with liquor for mixed drinks. Meanwhile, a portion of the proceeds from all sales of Caliwater is donated to No Kid Hungry, making it a brand you can feel wonderful about supporting.

NEXE Innovations’ Coffee Pods

NEXE Innovations Inc. is a leader in plant-based compostable technology and advanced materials manufacturing, as based in British Columbia, Canada. The company has developed one of the only patented, fully-compostable, plant-based, single-serve coffee pods for use in leading single-serve coffee machines. This proprietary NEXE pod is designed to reduce the significant environmental impact caused by single-serve pods, over 50 billion of which are discarded every year. With over $60 million USD raised to date from equity and government funding and over 6 years of R&D, NEXE is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for environmentally-friendly and sustainable products in the single-serve coffee sector and beyond.

These pods became available for sale starting November 1, 2021 via nexecoffee.com, with brick and mortar sales strategy planned for immediate launch soon after. Per Ash Guglani, President of NEXE: “This new line complements our existing NEXE Coffee espresso products, sold in Nespresso compatible, fully compostable pods. Keurig and Nespresso are the 2 most popular single-serve coffee pod machines sold and used worldwide, positioning us well to serve the growing 60 billion pod per year market.” Grown in the mountains of Peru, the new blend uses 100 percent certified organic beans and is roasted to perfection for a rich and balanced flavour, medium acidity, and hints of brown sugar, lime, with an apple finish. The NEXE Coffee selection is available in 3 different roasts: Medium Roast, Medium-Dark Roast, and Dark Roast; each new blend is available in packages of 12 or 24 pods.

It is hard to pick a favorite of the 3 roasts, but I prefer the Medium Roast as part of my morning routine. Great coffee aside, I love the idea of having easy-to-make coffee that is priced economically, requires minimal clean-up, and is having little-to-no impact on the destructional of the environment.

Cello & Vevan by Schuman Cheese

Spearheaded by 4 generations of cheese experts, Schuman Cheese carries over 75 years of experience in specialty cheese-making, both domestic and imported. Schuman has 2 brands in its portfolio in particular that I recently had the pleasure of trying. Cello offers a rolodex of specialty cheeses to compliment any occasion, including Parmesan, Asiago and Copper Kettle offerings. Vevan, a more recently-launched brand, delivers a plant-based cheese alternative that meets the needs of vegan, flexitarian, lactose-intolerant and just-don’t-wanna-do-dairy consumers alike. Both of these brands are offered in excellent snack packs, which are among the best snack discoveries of mine for 2021.

Fresh Victor

Fresh Victor is a line of cold-pressed premium juice-based mixers in 7 classic and creative blends, including Mexican Lime & Agave, Pineapple & Ginger Root, and Cactus Pear & Pomegranate. All of these offerings are ideal for making craft cocktails and mocktails at home and available nationally through the brand’s website. In time for National Llama Day — December 9, 2021 — the brand hosted a virtual session with its Chief Mixology Officer H. Joseph Ehrmann, which I had the pleasure of attending. Simply put, the Fresh Victor brand tag of “craft cocktails made easy” is spot-on, and this is a company which meets the needs of health-conscious consumers and alcohol-loving people alike. The Cactus Pear & Pomegrante drink is probably my favorite from what I had tried.

Nectar Hard Seltzer

Nectar’s Asian-inspired hard seltzers are a divinely-different drink, as crafted with all-natural flavors of mandarin orange, lychee, yuzu and Asian pear. These seltzers also happen to be blended with a proprietary hard seltzer recipe that results in zero gross aftertaste and all of the enjoyment of drinking a low-calorie, zero sugar alcoholic drink. In case the brand name sounds familiar, Nectar went viral on TikTok last year, which led to Supreme-like drops at local liquor stores with lines around the block. Nectar is rapidly expanding across the U.S., with online delivery currently-available in 32 states and “IRL” availability across the East and West coasts of the States.

Bridgewater Chocolate

Awarded “Most Outstanding Overall Food Product” by The Connecticut Specialty Food Association several times and featured numerous times on The Food Network, Bridgewater Chocolate was first established by owner and founder Erik Landegren in 1995. After many successful years running Aquavit, Landegren met his wife-to-be Patti and moved to the town of Bridgewater, Connecticut to raise a family. He began making chocolate while he was running the quaint Bridgewater Village Store, yet missed the creamy rich ganache of European truffles, the caramel that oozed from within the chocolate, the brittle buttery toffee, the handmade marizpan and most of all the creamy, high cocoa, high cocoa butter content chocolate.

In 1999, knee-deep in chocolate and with growing demand, Erik Landegren partnered with Andrew Blauner, who now manages the business operations side of Bridgewater Chocolate. It now offers a variety of chocolates, including turtles, toffees, caramels, truffles, peanut butter patties, and hazelnut pralines. Its product lines include assorted chocolates, toffee assortments, tins (bite-sized, chewy caramels and raisins), cubes (bite-sized nuts and confections) and other delightful selections. Bridgewater Chocolate has 3 retail locations, and customers are also able to place orders online through the brand’s website, by phone (203-775-2286 option 1) or by visiting one of its many distributor locations.

Likemeat’s Like Chick’n Wings

The LIVEKINDLY Collective was reportedly founded by Blue Horizon Group on the belief that plant-based alternatives have the power to make the global food system sustainable. Its mission is to make plant-based living the new norm. As a collective of founders, entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the globe, LIVEKINDLY Collective is uniquely positioned to create impact with speed, at scale. Through its portfolio of brands — including Oumph!, The Fry Family Food Co., LikeMeat, No Meat, The Dutch Weed Burger, Happy Chicken and Giggling Pig — the LIVEKINDLY Collective is providing consumers around the world with healthy, sustainable, delicious food options.

LikeMeat, one of the LIVEKINDLY Collective brands, has cracked the “chick’n wing” code with the launch of its newest plant-based meat offering Like Chick’n Wings. Like Chick’n Wings is the plant-based spin on what appears to be America’s favorite party food. Each pack of mouth-watering Like Chick’n Wings includes a pouch of vegan buffalo sauce so you can toss, sauce and dip to your heart’s content, while staying 100 percent plant-based. Gluten-free, certified plant-based and made with non-GMO ingredients, Like Chick’n Wings are now available in a Family Pack for $16.99 in the freezer aisle at Sprouts. Like Chick’n Wings will be available in additional pack sizes in January 2022 at major retailers nationwide.

Purple Carrot

Instead of waiting in grocery lines losing patience and valuable minutes, you could be spending time catching up on your favorite Netflix shows and turning to Purple Carrot, which has been called “the one-stop shop for your meal prep needs.” Purple Carrot takes the hard work out of grocery shopping and the guesswork out of preparation, so you can spend less time wandering crowded store aisles and waiting in lines and more time spent cozying up with a good meal and a festive Hallmark movie with your loved ones.

Purple Carrot knows a hallmark of the holidays is a good hearty meal, and that it is almost always more satisfying when you’re not the one who has to pick it up from the grocery store. That is said to be why the brand has found the perfect balance between clean, healthy eating and sustainably-driven meals that do not sacrifice taste and are delivered directly to your door. Options include Mango Glazed Brussels and Chickpeas, White Lentil Risotto, and Sweet Potato Flatbread, which are all delicious and ought to appeal to vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Easy to make, wonderful to taste.

Golden Rule Spirits

Golden Rule Spirits’ 100ml bar-strength cocktails are made with exceptionally-smooth top-shelf spirits and balanced with all-natural ingredients, all in the convenience of a can. Reportedly carrying 1/4 the sugar than other ready-to-drink offerings, simply shake one of these small cans well and sip chilled in can or over ice. Its Golden Rule Margarita Original is wonderful, not too sweet and just the right amount of tart, as made from 100 percent agave tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice. Meanwhile, its Golden Rule Old Fashioned is made from high-rye bourbon, bitters, cane sugar and orange, all-natural ingredients and a hand-crafted 3-year-old bourbon. Both offerings come priced at $19.99 per 4-pack.

Elysian Brewing

Earlier in the year, I covered Hawkitect, the then-latest limited-edition brew from award-winning Elysian Brewing, the official craft beer partner of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. A limited-edition American Wheat Ale carrying a 5 percent ABV, this deceptively robust hoppy wheat ale blitzes your taste buds with immediacy and purpose. The Hawkitect’s strategy is clear, per the Elysian website: to “strike with bright, punchy notes of pineapple, mango, and citrus while maintaining an easy-drinking swagger.” A portion of the net proceeds from every can sold goes to help eliminate homelessness through the Seattle-based organization Plymouth Housing.

Even newer than that from Elysian is the winter seasonal Skalrok. Released in time for NYE 2021, this brew makes for a perfect winter drink. You can expect a strong performance of malts and hops give this beer a moderately-sweet, slightly-bitter, and subtly-tart taste. But arguably the real star in this group is the Kveik. This special yeast strain gives the Nordic Pale Ale a well-balanced flavor, and a citrus-forward aroma that is unforgettable.

Pratt Standard Cocktail Co.

Founded in 2014, the Pratt Standard Cocktail Co. is built around authenticity and flavor. Founder Tory Pratt shares her passion and dedication through the syrups and by educating customers about cocktail craft through classes and recipes. Each of its syrup is carefully developed and hand-crafted, from peeling ginger to personally-labeling each bottle. The hope of these pre-Prohibition-style syrups is to bring people together, creating connections over cocktails. Agave Spice Old Fashioned Syrup is its newewst syrup, as featuring dessert notes perfect for the holiday season, as designed to pair well with premium tequilas, rums, and other clear spirits.

Per founder Tory Pratt herself: “This is the first mixer we’re launching that is sweetened with agave syrup. The flavor profile was driven first by a goal to develop an old fashioned syrup for non-whiskey drinkers. I wanted to make an old fashioned base that would work for tequilas, vodkas and rums, since I regularly make old fashioneds with non-traditional spirits. What I found is that a more rounded flavor profile from the cacao and vanilla can substitute with clear spirits for the aging process, making a complex variation on an old fashioned, but with the spirit you enjoy most.” Now available online via PrattStandard.com with retail locations to follow.

Mile High Spirits

In 2011, Mile High Spirits reportedly set out to inspire a new standard in craft distilling. Its goal was to create “the best spirits possible using high quality, local ingredients as the foundation for recipes that would be brought to life by the most experienced craftsmen we could find. All without being obnoxious snobs about it.” As spirits exist to taste good and help you have a good time, and not to be hung in an art gallery, Mile High Spirits’ offerings include Bourbon, Whiskey, Vodka, Gin, Tequila, Rum and a canned Moscow Mule. These excellent drinks are now available at the High High Spirits’ Tasting Room bar and also in 16 states coast to coast.

LS Cream Liqueur

LS Cream is an award-winning cordial inspired by one of the most iconic beverages from Haiti, known as “cremas.” Its recipe consists of a rich blend of fresh cream and neutral grain spirits mixed with coconut, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, all of which are encapsulated in a bottle that exudes style and luxury while staying true to its exotic heritage. It all reportedly started when co-founders Myriam Jean-Baptiste and Stevens Charles saw a bottle of homemade cremas on the dinner table right next to the rest of the wine and liquor, and thought to “why can’t we get this at liquor stores here?” The flavor of LS Cream was inspired by Stevens’ late grandmother’s cremas recipe, which she left behind in a Ziploc bag and that the family cherished for generations. While traditional cremas is thicker and is enjoyed on its own, LS Cream Liqueur is versatile and light enough to be mixed into craft cocktails.

Great product aside, LS appears to be the first Black-owned cream liqueur on a national scale. It remains one of the very few Black-owned spirits brands in the cream liqueur category in total, which overall lacks diversity.

On The Rocks Cocktails

On The Rocks Cocktails make for an ideal on-the-go drink to take with you on your spontaneous, last-minute summer adventures. Crafted in a sleek glass bottle with natural ingredients, On The Rocks premium cocktails previously came in 6 different expressions: Cosmopolitan, Old Fashioned, Aviation, Mai Tai, Margarita and — my personal favorite — Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita. Now that numbers total 7.

Recently, On The Rocks Cocktails announced the launch of another classic cocktail, The Manhattan. Crafted with Basil Hayden Dark Rye Whiskey, this timeless creation delivers a spicy complexity, perfectly-balanced with fruit notes of sweet vermouth topped off with the acidity of bitters. For a limited time, The Manhattan expression is available in select stores nationwide and online through Drizly with a suggested retail price of $12.99 per 375 ml bottle with an ABV of 32.5%.

Slrrrp Shots

While pre-packaged boozy jello shots have seen increased popularity in the ready-to-drink market, Slrrrp Shots distinguishes itself with its large variety of vegetarian-friendly gelatin shots. Slrrrp Shots can now be found in 11 countries and at retail stores in 45 states of the U.S., including at MGM Properties in Las Vegas — where I will be traveling to later this week — beyond several minor league baseball stadiums and notable concert venues.

The latest offering from Slrrrp Shots is its Cinnamon Whiskey flavor. Reportedly the first packaged cinnamon whiskey gelatin shot on the market, Cinnamon Whiskey Slrrrp Shots combine the sweetness of cinnamon and the spice of premium whiskey for a whole new way to celebrate. Perhaps my favorite of all the Slrrrp offerings.

Bare Bone Vodka

Bare Bone Vodka is looking to carve out a new niche in the vodka category as the first vodka whose production is inspired by bourbon. While most other vodkas use only a single ingredient in distillation, Bare Bone Vodka is created using a unique, 2-grain mash bill of Texas-grown corn and wheat. Handcrafted in Texas, this singular vodka incorporates pure spring water from limestone rich aquifers off the Gulf Coast, and is finished using a triple charcoal filtration for a smooth profile. This vodka carries a respectable ABV of 40 percent and an economical price of $17.99 per bottle.

Daysmith Coffee

Per its website, Daysmith carries a simple mission: “to transform wellness with everyday goodness.” Its delicious canned coffees not only deliver the caffeine and coffee flavoring you would expect, yet also vitamins and plant-based nutrients to help support your health and power your day. Carrying less calories and sugar than most other canned coffee, you can enjoy a can — or more — guilt-free. The Vanilla Oat Milk Latte is my favorite offering from Daysmith.

Apothic Wine

Apothic — a wine brand known for challenging conventions through its innovative blends — launched its first-ever red varietal earlier this year, Apothic Cab. Apothic notably-collaborated with American actress Sarah Michelle Gellar last year, and the end-result of that was An Evening Of Intrigue: Choose Your Apothic Journey. Narrated by Gellar, that event was intended to ignite curiosity and result in discovery of the perfect Apothic wine for those who dare to take the journey. Also in 2021, for National Rosé Day, Apothic wanted consumers to buy Rosé and wear it too. Thus it offered a limited-edition, free temporary tattoo created by Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Sasha Masiuk.

More recently than that, Apothic unveiled “Would You Dare?,” a brand-new card game which invites you to “be bold and give a gift that excites this year.” For the perfect game experience, bundle your gift with an Apothic Red single serve. Featuring bold prompts and intriguing dares, this set of cards creates an experience that allows players to step into a more interesting night with Apothic.

Outstanding Foods’ PigOut Offerings

Built on the burning desire to make plant-based foods “tasty as hell,” Outstanding Foods creates foods for everyone without sacrificing taste or texture. Beginning with wholesome 100 percent plant-based ingredients, packed with protein and other health benefits, each product is skillfully prepared for superb taste and superior texture, and is free from gluten, soy, GMOs, trans-fats and cholesterol. The brand also gives back, partnering with non-profits that help improve the well-being of farm animals, the environment, and the health of the communities it serves. The plant-based brand has Los Angeles Laker JaVale McGee among its impressive roster of celebrity investors.

My favorite offering from Outstanding Foods’ is its Pizza Partay offering, which ought to deliver 30 percent-plus of your daily nutrient values at only around 400 calories in total for a full big bag. However, I love everything I have ever tried from the brand. Everything. At 400 to 500 calories for a large bag, it is one of the most fulfilling snacks one can have.

Shiner Beer

The Spoetzl Brewery was founded in Shiner, Texas — population 2,069 — in 1909 by Czech and German immigrants brewing beer with old-world traditions and recipes for Central Texas. Since then, the brewery has grown to be one of the largest independent craft brewers in the country with beers available in all 50 states and Mexico. To this day, every drop of the award-winning beer is brewed right in Shiner, Texas, where it all started 111 years ago. Earlier this year the brewery announced a new beer named Shiner 1909, a small-batch lager brewed with heritage ingredients celebrating the history, endurance, and Texas heritage of the Spoetzl Brewery.

More recently than that, Shiner Beer released a limited-edition Berries & Cream brew. This fruity, new brew was inspired by the viral TikTok trend, featuring an innocent yet odd character named the “Little Lad,” who is so excited by a Berries & Cream flavor that he launches into song and dance. While the Berries & Cream tune and the “Little Lad” first debuted in a 2007 candy commercial, the “Little Lad” made his comeback in 2021 on social media, garnering millions of likes on his TikTok account. And just like a viral TikTok trend, this tasty new brew will only be around for a limited time; it is currently exclusively available at the renowned Spoetzl Brewery.

Jefferson’s Ocean Aged At Sea

Jefferson’s OCEAN Voyage 24 is the newest expression in the Jefferson’s OCEAN, an “aged at sea” collection. Unlike past OCEAN iterations, OCEAN 24 marks the first time since its inception where the barrels took a completely new route: traveling through ports in the Caribbean and Central America resulting in barrel exposure to high heat, all the time and a deliciously different whiskey than other OCEAN releases. The constant agitation and changing climate impacts each expression in the OCEAN whiskey family differently, primarily because each voyage is different. And Jefferson’s OCEAN 24 voyage was a hot one, as the motion of the water, tropical humidity and high heat encountered during the Voyage 24 experiment has resulted in a bourbon that delivers caramelization and enhanced tones of vanilla extracted from the wood give it a sweet taste, mellow pallet and laid back finish. Now available nationwide with a suggested retail price of $79.99 per bottle.

Laudemio Frescobaldi Olive Oil

When it comes to olive oil worth checking out, assuming you keep a collection of oils in your kitchen… Laudemio Frescobaldi — which carries a suggested retail price of $39.99 — is a unique emerald-green and robust extra virgin olive oil with authentic Tuscan aromas of freshly mown grass and artichoke. This product will elevate any recipe calling for olive oil, such as meat dishes. A luxury brand that lives up to the hype Laudemio will be sure to make that lasting impression. Laudemio Frescobaldi can be easily purchased on Amazon and delivered right to your door so you can give your family the true taste of Italy without having to leave your home. It is a staple of the Paltrowitz kitchen, which I recently had to stock up on.

L’OR Espresso

Created in France in 1992, L’OR’s ambition has always been “to offer the best coffee in the world.” In 2010, L’OR expanded beyond the French borders with the launch of L’OR Espresso, which is reportedly the first coffee capsule compatible with Nespresso original coffee machines. 7 L’OR blends are now available in U.S. via lorespresso.us and Amazon. In other words, you have top-notch, widely-compatible coffee products you can easily find online.

Herbacée

Celebrating Mother Nature’s bounty, Herbacée aims to explore the divine connection between cannabis and the grapevine. Launching with its sparkling beverage line, Herbacée is reportedly the nation’s first cannabis-infused nonalcoholic wine that pays homage to traditional French-inspired wine blends. Founded in 2021 by Vin D’Fleur LLC, the boutique beverage brand is led by Certified Specialist of Wine, French Wine Scholar and cannabis drinks expert Jamie Evans of The Herb Somm, in partnership with House Ethereal. The company specializes in nonalcoholic cannabis-infused wines and other wine-based elixirs.

Herbacée first launched in Northern California on December 11, 2021 with the brand’s exclusive delivery partner Ona.Life, a premium cannabis delivery company servicing San Francisco and the Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties. This release features Herbacée’s first dazzling beverage: Sparkling Rosier, a nonalcoholic “South of France”-inspired rosé blend made primarily from Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault wine grapes, and infused with 5mg THC and 5mg CBD per can. Beginning in January, Herbacée will be available in the Southern California market and is distributed by Sense Distribution. A perfect pairing for holiday gatherings, a day at the park, or a meal shared with friends and family alike, Herbacée’s Sparkling Rosier is available in both single-serve cans ($8.00 SRP) and 4-packs ($28.00 SRP), as dressed in elegant, floral packaging. Categorized as a “dry” beverage — meaning little to no sugar has been added — Herbacée Sparkling Rosier contains only 10 calories per can and makes for a wonderful accompaniment to a variety of cuisines.

Buzzbox Premium Cocktails

The Buzzbox brand was created by Rod Vandenbos, having spent many years in the entertainment industry in Hollywood. His attendance at numerous outdoor concerts provided real-time research into an untapped need for a ready-to-drink cocktail made with premium, natural ingredients and delivered in sustainable packaging. Billed as “real cocktails ready when you are,” these are premium single-serve, ready-to-rock, natural-ingredient-fused cocktails in eco-friendly packaging for concerts, parties in the park, front-porch-me-time, and infinity and beyond.

Among the excellent offerings from Buzzbox: Hurricane, Bloody Mary, Perfect Margarita, Vodka Lemonade, Cuban Mojito, Classic Cosmo, Classic Greyhound, and Long Island. All strong, all available in 4-packs, and all delicious.

Marquis

Last but definitely not least… Marquis is an APAC-founded beverage brand said to be “on a mission to change the way you drink caffeine with plant-based, fruit-forward, Asian heritage-inspired refreshments.” With a sufficient amount of caffeine in each can, Marquis offers a variety of plant-based ready-to-drink beverages made with a unique tri-blend of caffeine — Yerba Mate, Green Coffee & Green Tea — which aims to provide a balanced lift that helps you win each day without the crash. Packed with Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Antioxidants, and other organic ingredients, Marquis offers a better way to caffeinate; Marquis intentionally-provides 100mg of clean caffeine, which is arguably the right amount to supplement your energy.

Available in Super Berry, Citrus Yuzu and Mango Ginger flavors, each beverage is made with Certified Organic Non-GMO ingredients, Vegan, and Gluten-Free. These drinks also happen to contain no sugar, calories, carbs, or anything artificial. Still waiting for the catch with this one…
