Ethereal-Pop Artist burwell Confronts Grief in Vulnerable New Track “anywhere but here”

A tune that many may relate to, pop artist burwell’s “anywhere but here” might be the young artists’ most emotional track yet. Encouraging listeners to face denial through the healing power of presence, burwell’s song channels the pain and memories from the months leading up to her mother’s passing. Written from a small barn just south of Nashville, TN, “anywhere but here” goes LIVE ahead of her debut EP which will be released in loving memory of her mom in late March.

Paired with a vulnerable music video, we’re introduced to sadness and denial as well as a profound acceptance leading to solitude. Reflecting on those few months before her mother’s passing, she remembers their attempts to pretend like everything was normal. Simple things like playing cards in the attic and enjoying one another’s company stand out as more than simple but rather, some of the most cherished times in both of their lives. Leaning into the tension of messy, chaotic emotions, we witness her trying on her mothers clothes juxtaposed with slowed down visuals of her riding her bike to escape the scene.

Co-written with Adam Palmer and produced by Bede Benjamin-Korporall, “anywhere but here” recounts irreplaceable childhood memories that only burwell’s brother can relate to. In her words ““…he knows exactly what I went through growing up and what I’m feeling now.” 

burwell wants listeners to have a safe space to feel all of the most difficult emotions that they might be feeling, especially if they’ve been in denial or holding back. Acceptance is the first step to healing and “anywhere but here” does exactly that. Emotional, healing, vulnerable, relatable…all of these adjectives and more can be used to describe a song that is guaranteed to touch the hearts of listeners all over the world.
