Fozzy’s Rich Ward On The New “Boombox” Album, Songwriting, Future Band Plans, Chris Jericho’s Evolution, Van Halen & More

After touring the world and building a loyal fanbase for the better part of 20 years, Fozzy — comprised of singer Chris Jericho, guitarists Rich Ward and Billy Grey, bassist PJ Farley and drummer Grant Brooks — has scored 5 consecutive Top 20 singles, with its song “Judas” achieving RIAA Gold status last month after amassing over 55 million views for its video on YouTube. After sharing the stage in recent years with Metallica, KISS, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Shinedown, Slash, Three Days Grace, Nickelback, Steel Panther and Buckcherry, Fozzy has also proved itself a renowned act.

Boombox is the new album for Fozzy, as due out on May 6, 2022 via the Mascot Label Group. 3 songs from the still-forthcoming Boombox album have already charted high with millions of YouTube hits also scored: “Nowhere To Run” and “Sane”; a new single titled “I Still Burn” is out today. In suppport of Boombox, Fozzy will be hitting the road this spring for the U.S. leg of its Save The World Tour. The 30-date trek kicks off on March 31, 2022 in Detroit, Michigan and concludes in Sauget, Illinois on May 16, 2022. Joining Fozzy on the upcoming tour are GFM, KrashKarma and The Nocturnal Affair.

On March 3, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Fozzy co-founder Rich Ward via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Boombox, we talked about metal and hard rock influences, his creative process for Fozzy, what producer Johnny Andrews brings to the table, and how frontman Chris Jericho has grown over the years. More on Fozzy can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
