Chae “I Tried” Video Debut

Chae, the LA based/Arabian born singer, unveils her new music video “I Tried” which is the lead single from her debut EP, “Letters I’ll Never Write.”

The Indian-American rising star spent the beginning of her career as a vocalist/songwriter in the EDM space, collaborating with prominent artists such as Rome in Silveryetep, and William James. She’s now ready to tell her own story with a collection of tracks that dive into her deeply personal experiences. Her forthcoming project reflects a new side of Chae, one that veers into the R&B corner and sees her depart from the comfort of her usual dance sound.

This is like a 180 in her career, and while I personally hold a special place for EDM and House Music in my heart when the video started to play; I instantly was taken back to the 90’s and early 2000’s music I used to listen to as a young man. Definitely the type of music that would make it into the playlists on the way to work and on road trips.

The official music video for “I Tried” gives a stirring visual narrative of Chae’s reflection on past love. With dusty blue hues against each emotionally driven shot, the music video marries the melancholic tone with the track’s strong narrative of reminiscing and soul-searching. The minimal, clean-cut edits serve as an ode to 90s R&B aesthetics, conveying an entrancing and dream-like essence. Showcasing the layers of emotion that come with breakups, the visual composition makes the single’s organic affection and juxtaposition even more apparent.

Letters I’ll Never Writeis due for release on 6/24 & doubles as a memoir of the most important chapter in her life thus far. Within it, she navigates through her experiences as an Indian-American woman, adapting to different cultural norms, coming to terms with her feminine duality, and what it means to be unapologetically real.  I believe that music is a personal experience from one user to the next. If she continues to produce music as soulful as this one she’s going to be a force to reckon with in the near future. With thousands of artists releasing music everyday it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle but this definitely produces a vibe that isn’t easily forgotten in my opinion.
