0Jared Freid & Jordana Abraham On Pizza Hut’s “Struggle Bus,” The Succes Of The “U Up?” Podcast, Long Island, Music & More
Whether it is the heart-crushing disappointment of watching your team lose in the final moments of a big game, burn-out from late-night study hours, life in general and/or feeling the physical exhaustion from going out the night before, Pizza Hut is here to help when you feel like you are “on the struggle bus” — a term popularized by Gen Z and Millennials to humorously refer to dealing with frustrating tasks and challenges in their life at the moment — by delivering a respite in the form of an actual bus.
This spring, “the struggle bus” helmed by Pizza Hut began a month-long tour. Debuted at the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in New Orleans last month, said bus gave fans a spot to refuel, take a time out from cheering on their teams and partying in the Big Easy. It offered lounge areas, beds for power napping, soothing videos, interactive selfie experiences, and of course, plenty of Pizza Hut pizza. Beyond the earlier-mentioned perks of the bus from the New Orleans stopover, many attendees had the opportunity to visit Betches co-founder Jordana Abraham and comedian Jared Freid, co-hosts of the hit modern dating podcast U UP? during the struggle bus’s second tour stop in the popular college town of Athens, Georgia. Abraham and Freid recorded a special episode of the podcast from the bus, featuring calls made to the U UP? “HUT-line,” which is a dedicated line Pizza Hut set up so fans could share their stories of red flags, awkward encounters and more with the hosts.
On April 28, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with both Jordana Abraham and Jared Freid via Zoom, as embedded below. During the interview, we discussed how Pizza Hut’s struggle bus and the U UP?” podcast have come together to help people make light of the common struggles they have experience within the dating realm and beyond, while also providing them with a good laugh and some of the most beloved college comfort food, Pizza Hut pizza; other discussion topics included podcasting, music and Long Island. More on U UP? and its hosts can be found here, here and here.
