ABC’s Martin Fry On His Summer 2022 Touring, The Possibility Of Another ABC Album, Radiohead, Suits, Onstage Pointing & More
As kicking off next month, soulful UK synth pop stars ABC will be touring North America this summer. The dates mark the 40th anniversary of the group’s chart-topping debut album, The Lexicon Of Love, as released in 1982. Of a recent ABC live show the UK’s music bible known as the NME declared, “ABC’s Martin Fry is a revelation, a soul man supreme, belting out pristine Vegas glitter pop and uptown House… An ageless performer, a self-ironising pop genius on top form.” Fry will be joined onstage for this tour by guitarist Toshi Yanagi (the Jimmy Kimmel Live house band), bassist Andy Carr (Belinda Carlisle, Nick Heyward), drummer Pete Maloney (Dishwalla, Tonic), saxophonist Rob Hughes (contemporary jazz soloist) and keyboardist Daniel K. Mandelman (Paul Simon, Jason Mraz).
Beyond his four decades of accolades and sold-out worldwide tours, ABC frontman Martin Fry notably served as Hugh Grant’s vocal coach for the 2008 hit movie Music And Lyrics. Fry also holds an honorary Doctor Of Music degree from England’s University Of Sheffield. These were among the many topics we discussed when speaking via Zoom on May 9, 2022, as embedded below in video form.
